Yeah, I just noticed tysat was no longer staff and checked Meta to see if there was a new discussion about it...I do feel bad for hilariousandco in all honesty Tongue I have no idea who is active in the Bitcoin Discussion section so I'm not going to make any input on who should become a mod there but he probably should get a little bit more help there. Maybe a Patroller could step up to help there, or an English-speaking local mod like Mitchell (is he a Patroller as well? Not sure).
I'm a Local board moderator and a patroller right now and I feel honored that you think of me as an option.

You don't need to feel bad. There's a handful of globals that take care of reports too. I think one in an opposite timezone to Europe would be ideal. There always seems to be a lot of reports built up over night when I wake up.
Every morning when I logon there are at least 10 reports waiting for me. I even had 21 last week, it builds up a lot during the night. 99,99% of the time I get these reports because of my patroller role (the Dutch local board is quite dead as we often speak English just fine).

I wouldn't mind being a Global Moderator or a Bitcoin Discussion moderator, I just hope that I do my current job good enough to deserve something like that.

Those are the same globals that are...y'know, globals, though, right? Wink They have to deal with reports from all the sections (well, probably excluding some more difficult ones from the Local boards) so I'd imagine that they are unable to focus on just a couple boards. Point is you would probably appreciate the help, right? Smiley

Oh yeah, I forgot you were a fellow Englander. That build up of reports is probably from people from the US posting as you sleep, i.e. the pain of British moderators everywhere. (No offense Americans there's just a lot of you)

It seems tysat and malevolent were removed as Bitcoin Discussion mods. Just me there now. Maybe time to add a couple new mods? I think the boards that don't have any dedicated staff could do with some (or some more Globals to cover them).

Do globals cover Bitcoin discussion to? in that case you have 3/4 global moderators plus your self moderating that particluar area and i think thats enough i would agree with the areas which arent moderated by a dedicated member of staff

Globals cover everything.

Surely its just temporary and they'll be readded once they're back?

I agree mitchell would be suited to Bitcoin discussion as long as he wants to do it of course

Well unless malevolent becomes active and proves that he's still in full control of his account, then he would be likely to retain his position as a Global Moderator. He hasn't been around for weeks now, but I'm pretty sure he received the email from theymos.

Maybe he has received an email from theymos, but he 'is not' in control of his forum account (who knows). After this another attack I am not surprised anymore (so everything is possible).

PS: However, well done admin Wink and good luck with your research (C'mon people theymos will pay a 15 XAU bounty ~ 20k dollars / 75 BTC  if you will find the real identity of the 'hacker').

Just hand the info over to the FBI, one of the IPs was a server being hosted by a niche NL company. Subpoena them and see what you get out of it.

Global mods can moderate any and all sections and I think can also ban accounts. Staff who don't have any subs can only handle newbs, and mods like me can handle newbs and any posts/reports of a sub they're a moderator of (Bitcoin Discussion & Marketplace in my case).

Hence the term "Global Moderator". Now it makes sense. How about forum staffs? They can't handle reports that include Jr. Member up, is that right? I've been here in this forum for over a year now, but still I can't seem to understand things in regards with staffs and forum admins.

'Staff' is just the term used to indicate a moderator outside of the sub they moderate. I'm listed as staff in Meta but if you check in the Marketplace I'll be listed as Moderator.

You've mentioned the term "patrollers". What does this certain group of forum staff do? And why can't I see someone here with a title of that name in their account?

They just handle reports on newbs and will be listed as Staff. Mitchell and Eal are Patrollers but also moderate their own Local section.

Thanks for answering my questions. Now it is clear to me now. Going back on topic, who among the Global Mods are demoted? I've only seen one, SaltySpitoon, with the tile Global Moderator.

What does a Global Moderator actually do? I'm still quite confused on the differences between a Global Mod and a forum staff.
There's no difference there. Admins, global moderators, moderators and patrollers are all part of the forum staff.
Global moderators have the power to moderate the whole forum compared to moderators and patrollers who are either limited to certain sections or groups of memebers (e.g. newbies).

You've beaten me to it. Weren't the admins the only ones who could ban people?

Grue handles some bans occasionally and so did BadBear before he got promoted to Admin (unless it's a power that is just handed out to the most trustworthy). I don't think they can issue temp bans though, that's for admins.

Global moderators can only perm ban people and admins can both perm ban people and temp ban people (this sounds backwards, I know)
