Wow it is good that you will give bitcoins as gift to your parents. You will teach them on hiw does bitcoin works and give them a opportunity to enter to the bitcoin. We know our parents because they become older so I think bitcoin is perfect for them because you do not need a strong body here only need time and effort to earn money.

I've given Bitcoin as a gift to family members but they were already VERY interested and knowledgeable - and very aware of any scams they may encounter.

That is a huge amount but I think every parents deserve to be spoiled since they work so hard to raise us,
It is a great gift for all of their sacrifice but they should know how to use it or it would just be wasted or the worst is be hack,
And the hackers would be the one who would use the money instead of your parents so you should also guide them .

Thank you everyone for all the answers!
My parents aren't very technological, but know about bitcoin after I've explained to them.
They are middle-aged (55-60 years old), about to retire during this year.

I wanted this to be a gift and encourage them to learn about cryptocurrency since they will have lots of free time.
I was thinking to keep a copy of the private key holding the coins or gift them a hardware wallet.

your parents know that it is bitcoin and cryptocurrency ?, because maybe they do not appreciate the gift because of ignorance. For example, my parents have no idea what it is, they only know the money paper and for more than I explain they do not understand.

Hello everybody!
I would like to give to my parents about 0.3 bitcoin hoping that in a few years the price will increase a lot.
Is it a nice idea for a present?

Thanks for any tips!  Smiley

It would be better if you would also teach them how to trade so they would know how to get more than just what you give.
You know what they say give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
It is great that you would give them BTC but you should also teach them about crypto stuff so they would know how to use it,
And besides there are so many scammers and hackers out there so you should also teach them how to avoid it and how to keep their crypto safe.

Yes, that is absolutely a great idea.
It doesn't matter if maybe they don't know much about bitcoin.
You can explain to them what is bitcoin and tell them not to sell if bitcoin price does not touch more than $20k or more.
But it will better if you can buy them hardware like Ledger to save the bitcoin.

yes.  that is a good idea.  and 0.3 BTC is a large amount.  but.  do your parents understand about blockchain or not? if your parents are primitive about technology, you better just give them a fiat form.  I believe.  you've thought about this before.

The intention was good but it would be better if you just converted that 0.3BTC into fiat and give it to your parents. I know some people here who do give some money to their parents because they were family oriented people and i do adore them for doing like that to their parents.

But my question is how would you gonna get that 0.3BTC if you do have a job already then it is easy for you to give it to them. You could actually start buying Bitcoin now and HODL until the market skyrocketed to the moon.

First, you need to make sure your parents understand bitcoin? if already understand what you are doing is very wise as a dedicated child. but it is better to maintain your investment, so that your parents will not be burdened by the job.

Yes, it's a very good idea to give your bitcoin gifts to your parents and maybe later when it's time you want to give a bitcoin prize the price will increase.
but the problem is that your parents know or can use the bitcoin digital currency or not, and you have to tell or introduce bitcoin before you give it.

Its a good idea to gift bitcoin to your parents, but before you do that you need to get your parents the necessary informations such as what bitcoin is and how it is used in this way they can take care of it properly. And if they are interested in bitcoin it good to go I can say the idea is a great idea.

That's a good choice of present but you shouldn't end up by just giving them that amount of BTC. You should let them know how Blockchain works and what is the risk of investing in crypto so they wouldn't expect much out of that investment. You're thoughtful by the way.

I know the intention is good, but don't ever give bitcoin to anyone who doesn't understand it.  The chances of it never being touched are high.   My advice is, you hold the .3 for them, being someone who understands this technology and in the future when bitcoin and cryptos are more widely accepted you can show them then, how to spend it.   No need to lead them into an investment mentality with this, investments are not spendable, bitcoin is.

hear hear, best point!

It will be useful as an investment fund for your parents. In a first moment they might not understand it very well, but you can explain them step by step how it works and how worthful it will be on their lives in the future.
I hope in some years your parents can make good use of this btc amount, as it's not interesting to hodl money forever.

Many parents usually want their presents usual things such as smarphone, laptop or even cars but seems your parents want something different and concern too about cryptocurrency and i think that was good idea and if you really did it then automatically you makes your parents became an bitcoin users and if your parents have a plan to hold it for next several years i think might be the value of those bitcoin will increase too

Do not see the value of bitcoin that you will give to parents, as a child is the obligation to give something of the results that we get as a token of thanks. but is there a problem later if your parents cannot use because of not understanding. what is clear is that when bitcoin is developing well it is sure to be a good investment for the future for your parents.

I wouldn't do that. They (probably) won't understand the value you are giving away. They'll want to cash out immediately after bitcoin's price surges %100. There is nothing wrong with that but we all know Bitcoin won't stop there.

If you don't care whether if they dump their coins or not, do it. If you care, just hodl your coins yourself and maybe give them a physical golden coin as a present or some diamond ring maybe, I don't know. Whatever they are into.

Just don't expect them to understand bitcoin immediately.

Nice gesture to get them interested in cryptocurrency by owing a bit of bitcoin. Smiley
But you might want to get them to put it on a wallet installed on their phones or a tablet they use to skype with or whatever they do with technology. Because putting it on a usb/cold storage wallet/paper wallet they are more likely to lose it or forget where they placed it. Especially if they are elderly. Embarrassed

0.3 bitcoin is approx 2300 USD to buy now.
What if you would make them a gift of 800 USD worth of Gold, buy 0.1 Bitcoin for approx 800 USD and tell them not to spend this 0.1 bitcoin for the next 10 years, and for 800 USD buy yourself a gift? Smiley
