If you pay only Bitcoins, then - it will be difficult. For example, in our country there are absolutely no stations for taking crypto assets. But you can exchange Bitcoins for the time being and pay with cash ...

Well, she didn't solely survived on bitcoin since she had eaten some left over at McDonald. Living on bitcoin can be fantastic and risky too if one has limited bitcoin when the price is dumping like we do see at present market situation.

This is really awesome. We are really experiencing the potential of Bitcoin use. As of now it is very difficult to survive with Bitcoin for entire life style like from hospitality to food etc., But she did a great job and she is able to survive 21 days with 0.21 BTC.

The girl seems to be attractive on her own, even without any bitcoins (and makeup), but with a nice look and pretty face you can survive for much longer with no money in your pocket at all. I think that when she asked to pay for food and shelter with crypto, the managers were willing to treat her with lavish hospitality for free. She likely just needed a little bit of practice at first with her approaches and attitude to get everything she wanted

To conclude, this doesn't look like a test of Bitcoin potential

A Chinese girl named He Youbing made a Challenge show that she survived in a strange city for 21 days only with 0.21BTC to pay for all she needed including hospitality. It was extremely difficult in the first three days that she had to stay in McDonald's and ate leftover burgers. Hypoglycemia even brought her to hospital. Fortunately, the audience of the show put forth ideas for helping her out like reselling products she needed in exchange for her Bitcoins. And she finally lived through the 21 days. Because hotels didn't accept bitcoin, she had to bring a portable tent. Anyway, she made it. It was the first time when humanity lived in the society with Bitcoin. How do you think of it? Isn't a remarkable event?

I think they cheated a bit. If she ended up in hospital, because she basically starved, then I would not define that

as "survived".  Roll Eyes  Also, the normal Bitcoin adoption did not help her to survive, but rather the publicity of this effort and the

ripple affect it caused. She would not have survived, if it was not for the helping hand of the Bitcoin community. China still

needs a lot more merchants that would be willing to accept bitcoins for daily groceries for people to succeed in this kind of

experiment.  Roll Eyes

So fabulous. I think it's too extreem because it forces to live in other people's countries by using Bitcoin as a means of payment that is not necessarily accepted.
But from that experience we can take messages, people want to live with Bitcoin as a legitimate payment instrument and don't want to use paper money as a payment instrument. governments all over the country should know this news, so they can think that their people want Bitcoin.

With that money, i can survive about 1 years or probably more in my country. Well, since it said she live in strange city and it probably cost more than in my country and since she only using bitcoin as payment.

Yes, everything depends on the country you live in. I guess Indian guys could live for this sum of money for even more than a year. In my country, it will be a very difficult task.

I tried to do a little bit of research, so please do correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the monthly minimum wage in China just above $350 USD? She basically had 4x that amount, with 2/3 the number of days and no family to feed. Why are people thinking she pulled off a miracle here? Lol.

Well, she did pull off a miracle!
Probably one of the few people on this earth that had more than 1000$ to spend in 20 days and choose to eat leftovers at McDonald's, common....

It would be very interesting,if somebody tries to live 1 month with 1000 USD worth of gold only.By "gold" I don't mean gold coins, but one big piece of gold.Would it be easier, compared with bitcoin or no? Grin
How to cut one big piece of gold, where to sell it(most of the gold buyers cheat).
That would be a helluva journey.

I dare you to try and live with 10 BTC not 0.2 in Antarctica! Or 10 kilos of gold! Or 1 million $.  Grin
And don't say it is a remote place...

Well.. she should try to do that challenge in more crypto-friendly city like Amsterdam. Also a crypto debit card from Wirex or other popular providers would have made the challenge much more easier for her.

That's not using crypto, that's selling your cryptos for fiat and using VISA

Now, a more interesting fact.
Wasn't China the big name in crypto, the ones with most bitcoins, most trading, most miners, most everything....
And yet, again it seems like everything in China is fake.

So the story doesnt make any sense because she didnt use her bitcoin for her living in that 21 days, the story must be she is able to use her bitcoin to live and not be a poor girl or beggars living in the street.

It's really stupid what he does, does he not think that bitcoin is a digital asset if he wants to use bitcoin as a means of payment, then he must search first where the country accepts and uses bitcoin as a medium of exchange.
in some countries there are those who accept bitcoin for payment tools such as buying clothes and food but I have never heard bitcoin is used for hotel payments.
bitcoin is very easy to use if you can think intelligently not like a very stupid person like that.

thrown 'into a strange city'
whatever the currency is.. the first few days will be living by the skin of your teeth learning your new surroundings.

but there actually are hundreds if not thousands of people that work and live but have NOT received an income in fiat for at least a year

i for one have been living happily on bitcoin since 2012

You are the Frankenstein, you don't need shelter, food, or drink

Sometimes I wonder if you really exist as a physical object (well, subject) and are not a spawn (or just a pawn) of the grim genius of Thor and Odin. Regardless, it is hard to live solely on bitcoins. Using Bitcoin payment cards obviously doesn't cut it as that. Both the outcome and the difficulties involved with the challenge described confirm that things are far from being as rosy as many think they are or want them to be in real life. In fact, they are quite lousy with respect to real adoption of cryptocurrencies, to be honest. All in all, it tells us that cryptocurrencies are not currencies but simply investment assets, mostly speculative ones, as it has been for years and not likely to change in the future

Lmao she might as well have done that, really. It's essentially going to have the same outcome, except gold is easier to steal especially when you're camping out because hotels don't take gold bars for payments lol.

the biggest problem with gold as a currency is splitting it into smaller increments. for example you can't carry around gold dust with a weighing tool to give 1 gram of it when you  want to purchase something small! otherwise if we get over this problem it would be similar to fiat.

She's beautiful! A girl from China is doing the right thing! In Japan, there are more shops and hotels that take bitcoin. Perhaps it is more correct to conduct such experiments there.

1000 dollars for 21 days is very much.

Exactly! If this was to show Bitcoin's utility, it should be somewhere it can actually be used as money. All this really showed is that you can't force businesses to accept money they don't recognize. Not even businesses outside the USA will accept US Dollars (which is the world's most dominant reserve currency) for payment, except maybe ones in tourist hotspots.

I really admire the aunts she did. living in a city where bitcoin payments are not popular is not easy. she succeeded. Sure it will bring good things for bitcoin on whether bitcoin will be used for future more popular payments.

This is a remarkable story but it highlights how bitcoin is really not ready to be used as a common means of payment. It would be easy to survive on the dollar equivalent of that BTC. I hope that in the future someone else can attempt this and have much more success. I think it would've been easy in a lot of cases to just attempt to explain to people how she can pay in btc and they can then convert that to fiat.

This proves very little, eating leftover burgers does not constitute using Bitcoin to survive at all. In any way, if you give that money to anyone living in a 3rd world country, they would be able to feed a family of 5 with that for a month.

The challenge will be to give them that money and then see if they can use it to survive.   Roll Eyes
Now, that would be a true challenge, because people will have loads of bitcoins, but they will not have a place to use it.  Roll Eyes
