Thanks for sharing this, it was actually quite interesting to watch.

They tell the entire story of Quadriga, the founders, and what happened. This is a reminder yet again of not your keys, not your coins.

I wasn't aware of the details of the story, and I quite enjoyed the watch. Recommended.

I'm pretty sure most of you here remember what happened with Canada's largest exchange QuadrigaCX and the death of its owner but for those who don't, you can read this article
That case and the development, implementation of multi-signature wallet trigger a significant change on how exchanges, companies and group of people use wallets. They have changed from single-signature wallet to multi-signature wallet that means to approve one transaction, there are required co-signatures sign that one to make it done.

It is safer in terms of capital management in case of death and prevent compromise from hacks as well.

For those who can’t wait for the Netflix version on QuadrigaCX, this documentary came out at the end of last year, which I managed to watch recently:
Dead Man's Switch: A Crypto Mystery

Note that the above title entails a high degree of clickbait: Although the dead man’s switch theory is mentioned at some point, it seems to bear little weight, and there is no narrative in this version of the documentary to sustain it.

The story is interesting, depicting Gerry Cotten’s mysterious death during his honeymoon in India. Being an apparent control freak, he carried the weight of managing the Exchange in a very unipersonal manner, and this, without providing further spoilers, is one of the key parts of the mystery. Additionally, his prior associations to obscure profiles cast a further shadow of doubt in all this matter.

I originally thought they were the very same documentary on the subject.
Until I viewed the splash screen showing a clip of the one OSS mentions when I went to netflix (haven't logged into the app for awhile now) and have to say, they do look to be produced differently.
The one  you mention above seems to have been produced and funded by CBC which is the Canadian broadcasting corporation (governmently funded?) so not as styled as the one this topic is about.
The one on netflix seems to be targeted towards the audience of Mr.Robot with the flashy lighting and those who do not wish to be identified are wearing oversized teddy bear and fox masks.

Haven't watched either as I haven't had much time too but will in the near future.
Thanks OP for writing up something about it as this reminded me to put it on my watchlist.

Netflix has been working on a documentary about this case for quite some time, and we'll finally get to see it. It's coming out on the 30th of March[2][3].

There's no bad publicity, right? Well, I would rather see some positive documentaries on the crypto subject than them focusing on the negative. I understand what sells views, but still, it seems to me that crypto would benefit from some positive publicity as it is still at a turning point and people that are still getting to know what crypto and BTC are, they are just getting the wrong impression.

I read the OP in that reddit thread and it kind of backs up the first question I formed
in my head, How will Bitcoin be portrayed? and how will the average non-Bitcoiner
digest it

Quote
This documentary is a shameful attack on crypto

I will give it a watch because I know nothing of that exchange and everything
surrounding it, I'll see how it goes.

The documentary is out for anyone who wants to watch it. Here's an (interesting?) ongoing discussion about it if you want to know more about it before watching:

I hope that in the exchange owner's death part they don't exaggerate and show a lot of blood, they really like to show a lot of blood and organs to fall in their movies, series and documentaries

Gerald Cotten did not die (allegedly) a violent death, but as a result of Crohn's disease, so I do not believe we will see such scenes. In addition, I do not know if anyone independently examined the body at all and how the story about the request for exhumation ended. What I am pretty sure of is that after this documentary we will not find out anything new from what is already available in the media.

I recently read that his widow wrote a book called "Love, Betrayal and the Missing Millions" and gave some interviews in which she tells her side of the story. It is possible that she will also be part of the documentary.

I hope they focused on showing the real facts, without exaggeration. I like netflix but their problem is that they exaggerate a lot in certain things. Anyway I'll watch it when it comes out, I just hope it's not exaggerated

While the QuadrigaCX incident is definitely a very interesting story, Netflix sure know how to over-exaggerate and to focus a lot on the conspiracies of each story like with their real-life crime series. "The Hunt for the Crypto King". We've already had the Cryptoqueen, up next is the "Crypto Prince".

Regardless looks like a very interesting watch.
