"ubit" sounds simple and different. It could become the next big thing... or not. We'll have to see. Bit is unacceptable in my opinion.

[X] micros or mics

just like dollar <-> cents ("cent" just means 1/100, it isn't "centdollar")

bitcoin <-> micros (1 millionth)

There can also be intermediary "millies" (1 thousandth of a bitcoin)

I believe if they're officially called millibitcoins and microbitcoins, "millies" and "micros" will become colloquially common anyway in every-day street language.

Yep.
So just leave it alone and it will work out well.

Your poll is biased, you know that?

either remove the positive/negative of your liked/disliked choices or add it for all choices.

I removed two comments, but regarding bit, it is a statement of the fact, so it stays.

so then it is a poll to persuade people to choose something other than bit, not a poll to know general opinion.[I am sure there are 'statements of fact' regarding other options but it seems you dont care ]

I don't think that it really matters (comments or no comments), but I removed them. Don't be so...

You don't calls cents centidollar.
But we do call decibels decibels. Many people don't realise the "deci" prefix means that a decibel is 1/10th of a bel (and a bel is named for Alexander Graham Bell), but that doesn't matter.

satoshi is small enough , why we need a new unit?
mBtc is suitable to mark the price. So I think mBtc should
attracts more sights than such a new unit.

The bitcoin community is too full with retards who think bit is a good name for microbits.

There's a lot of better options in the poll, even ubit would be fine.

"bit", because:

General public is *familiar* with the term "bits", but they don't actually know what it means. (w.r.t. bits/bytes etc) So it's a perfect computery sounding term they can already say and are familiar with it. It's short and snappy and sounds futuristic/techy.

micro/nano BTC or whatever will still be used too by aficionados.

Every reasonably smart and techie person who went to school internationally knows what µ stands for.

The general public do not. Go ask ten people on the street. (Someone should actually do that!) Some people will give vague answers (is it a thousandth? A millionth?), while others won't have any idea at all.

...

Really, we should be calling this credits, or bitcredits, to fit in with science fiction IMO Grin

I really want to pay for something with credits so bad.

Why not stick to µBTC/uBTC as it has been commonly used ever since?

Anyways my vote is µBTC.

µBTC is a topdown measurement, and not future-proofing for common conversations of bitcoin

That (the last part) is just your opinion.

µBTC has worked quite well so far. I don't get what's the problem with it? Everyone that went to school internationally knows what the µ stands for when used in units. It actually is the canonical choice for naming the unit of the millionth fraction of anything.

I think people trying to change it just want to be important. Like: "Hey remember when I started a movement to change the name of a unit of a virtual currency back in the day? No? But why not? It was super important!"

For what it's worth (pun intended), I was just at the coffee shop and I heard someone say "itsy bitsy" and the bitsy "bit-c" stuck in my brain. And then I read this thread.

Personally I like ubit. Simple and rolls off the tongue nicely.

and most understand micro is milionth

That's a fantasy, not reality.  The vast majority of people in the world do not understand SI prefixes.  Most people are familiar with kilo, centi, and milli.  Very few people know what the others mean.

what is a microdollar? This poll is to establish possible alternatives to using micro ( a single word, not a derivative).

You don't calls cents centidollar.
If “centidollars” are called “cents”, then maybe “microbitcoins” could be “micros”.

Why can't we keep the measurements from here?

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Units

I'm pretty sure every unit of Bitcoin is taken.

We are discussing a simpler name for microbitcoin, naturally, with an underlying thought (that I agree with) that it is easier to measure monetary units in integers rather than decimals with a few zeroes beforehand. You don't calls cents centidollar.
