A thin client like Electrum or Multibit as your hot wallet, and a paper wallet to store the majority of your bitcoin.
It really depends on what you want the wallet for and on what device you want to use it on,
For hot wallet on mobile phone i would recomend wallet32, ive been using it for a week or 2 and its great.
Green address is also good but can be a bit slow.
Coinbase if you dont know much about security yet.
Computer:
I would go for Armory or or Electrum. Although Armory can be tricky for newbies.
Whatever you choose always use text or a 2fa app like Aurthy.
Security is the main thing you want to look at.

I would really suggest MultiBit. It is way faster in terms of sync speed and very easy to use. Make sure that you choose good password, generate number of address as spare one and export and encrypt your private keys on safe place.

You can download https://electrum.org/ (Electrum wallet). It's easy to generate a new wallet in it, and it has a seed for the wallet, so incase you want to restore the wallet all you need is to remember the seed.

I recommend you just send all the bitcoins to the new wallet address rather than restore the private keys on electrum. Also you can make use of truecrypt to create an encrypted container and store the backup or wallet itself on it. Hope this helps.

And also enable 2FA on your e-mail address. When signing up to blockchain, they send an e-mail with a unique password which is sufficient to gain access to the wallet, so someone with access to that e-mail could easily bypass 2FA on blockchain.info

I suggest you to download Electrum if you don't want to download the whole copy of the blockchain. It is newbie-friendly as far as my experience goes with it. There are also online wallets out there like the blockchain.info wallet but I've seen many complaints about it in terms of security so I guess it's better if you stick with lite wallets.
Multibit is the best bitcoin wallet and the safest trust me on this one. Cheers

as everyone suggested you can check https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet but if you want my opinion, i suggest you start with Blockchain.info as your online wallet and if you want to have a desktop wallet and don't want to Downalod "20+MB" choose Electrum as a light desktop wallet."20+MB"? I assume you meant 20+GB right?
My bitcoin core directory is currently taking ~30GB.
And for Electrum, you still need the block headers which have a size of about 26MB now.

Nope it has nothing to do with 2FA. There was (is?) a bug on blockchain.info that somehow revealed some users' private keys, causing a loss of hundreds of bitcoin.

Do not trust any online wallets. Just download MultiBit on your desktop and read about creating "cold wallets".
And to those who suggest MultiBit.. I agree, MultiBit is good for beginner. I started Bitcoin using MultiBit. Switched over to Mycelium few months back. Use MultiBit first, when you think you are ready to 'play' Bitcoin.. Switch over to Mycelium.

I'm using multibit, and never had any problems. It's very easy to set up and use. I've been planning on trying out something with a few more options, like Armory, but I don't think it's the best starting point for someone new to this.
