Actually, cryptobucket looks WAY better than my social network site. I recommend CRYPTOBUCKET.COM and in fact I would be very interested in BUYING the site if the owners are ever interested in selling ...

Added realtime monitoring for your favorite altcoins and multiple bitcoin exchanges, check it out @ CryptoBucket.com

Previous users may have to refresh or clear their cache as I don't have a cache buster implemented yet.

Interesting project, but needs to be converted to MVC. i have sent you a PM. i'm sure that i'm not the only one who would be interesting in participate in working on your project. you could create a private repo on bitbucket for us to work in our own trees if you are interested. I could drop a few hours a day on it. I can dev the full stack but most notably i'm a fairly highly touted UI/UX designer.

Thanks for getting in touch.  At this point I'm not interested in branching out with other developers, I have a few devs I can use already.  But thanks for the offer!

how noble. btw, your "few devs" obviously suck.

If you are the king of development show me your stuff.  How would you know if the devs I know suck considering I said I have devs I can use, not devs I have used?  One of them has two masters in computer science (one russia, one canada) with major's in artificial intelligence.    What you see in front of you is a package that was purchased for the sake of getting something going quick.

I've also been a web developer (as in paid by a firm, not sitting in my moms basement looking for work) since '96.

Sounds like you need to make some friends or something.. Wink

Lol, nice rebuttal. you made it sound as if "your devs" were the one who built the site, so thats why i said they sucked. If you are interested in setting up a repo and getting some free help, i would happily participate. As i previously told you, i dev the full stack. I work primarily in ecommerce, a social network might be a breath of fresh air to me. I think i could add value to your team as a volunteer contributor in an open source project. If you've no interest in that, thanks anyway.

More information about CryptoBucket here. Smiley

That page took a good 30 seconds to load...   Undecided

About 1 second for me. You might want to consider giving up the dialup service for something more up to date. lol

Ok, I tried it again just now and it came up almost instantly.

Are you on some kind of shared service?  One that gets slow during periods of peak activity?

I have a VPS that shouldn't be effected by peak periods.  I don't think I've ever seen the site take 30 seconds to load to be honest. ..and I work on it at random times of the night and day.  Glad it came up fast the next time you checked it out! Smiley

Thanks for all the input people! Smiley

I'm going to keep puttering away on it, I understand that there isn't many users which doesn't bring much value, unfortunately no social network starts with 10k users. over 250 in the first week though! :p

The first small giveaway went well although I do notice that many users are most likely only signing up for the giveaway as they don't add an avatar. This is also getting some traffic from being an old doge faucet so it brings in a bunch of people that only want free doges.. lol  I've added a sign in with twitter option to help those that don't want to have to give out their email address or are to lazy to signup.

I'm certainly interested in ideas that you guys think will help draw more users.  I'm working on putting charts and stuff inside the site instead of linking out to exchanges but that comes with the problem that places like bittrex don't have historical data to download so I have to start my charts with fresh data as soon as the code is done.

My gears have been turning,  there's gotta be a million things crypto people want that they can't get on facebook and twitter and all it will take is that one little feature that will bring users in to use the site.

My other thought was crypto rewards for participation..  as in, if you like, share, comment, follow, etc, you get a satoshi of some crypto or something.  Haven't thought it through completely yet though.

Surprised no one has mentioned Zap Chain yet http://www.zapchain.com/home/

You have strong competition there, and they have a clear reason why to use them over these forums

Good lord, that websites just as pathetic, if not more so.

I have been thinking about bitcoin social network for more than a month ago, and tried to contact some webmasters, but now I thought I should change and find another project.
Good luck, will take a look your site soon.

No, I have a consistent 100-150 Mbps broadband.

@OP It looks good so far but you don't have many users yet and that's kind of required to make the site valuable. The giveaways are a good idea. That might bring some users. If you can ban Bittburger I'll use it. jk
I think having a lot of giveaways will bring in a lot of account farmers who will create a bunch of accounts whose only purpose is to claim the giveaways. This will reduce the value of each account to the site as advertisers will not want to pay as much on a per impression/per click basis

I like the idea of a social network for people who all like and are interested in bitcoin. It could be a place where people who are invested in and are interested in bitcoin can 'gather' and discuss things as they relate to bitcoin.

I think I would call it bitcoindiscuss.....unless you wanted to use a simpler term for discuss, maybe you could replace discuss with talk, so you would call it bitcointalk

Hahaha!  Good one.  Yeah I don't see why we would want to get less formal than Bitcointalk, unless you really wanted small groups of people to circljerk even harder than Bitcointalk

So I had a site, http://www.cryptobucket.com that was an old doge faucet.  I decided to turn it into a social network for crypto people.

It's really basic right now.  I'll be adding a bunch of crypto-ish features to it such as pricing and info as well as cleaning up or adding usability features.

I figure it might give people a place to network with other crypto junkies without all the clutter of everything else you get on sites like fb & twitter.

Check it out!  There will be a random draw from the user profiles (that have profile pictures and posts) for a $100 worth of crypto to be given away.

If you like the idea, awesome!  If not, please don't spoil the fun.  If nothing else this is just something for me to dabble with.   Wink

What tool did you use to create it?   We've got a social networking tool on our site, but are using "Social Engine" for it.  Wish there was something a lot better out there, that is also integratable with WordPress.  Any suggestions?

Great idea and looks very clean.

There are many paranoids around here, you know. I'm not on facebook nor on any social network, and I'll never join any service like that. Sorry to tell you this, but this forum fully satisfies all my social desires.

Completely understandable!   This isn't a "gotta change his mind" reply, just an FYI. The ONLY required info on CryptoBucket is an email address which any paranoid person could create a throwaway account in a couple minutes.  Not trying to be facebook where the goal is to build some giant social graph of sell-able data.  Just trying to give like minded people a space where they will have many more crypto related features than the simple machines forum with a title "bitcoin forum". Smiley

I don't know, this forum is already pretty good <3
