And for sure i only see two possible alternatives right now - LTC and NMC - no one cares about others so don't bother with mining...

I see them as a quicker vehicle to more BTC than my miners can currently produce mining BTC on there own or even on bit parking. Mining alt-coins ans cashing out for btc quick has proved most profitable

Since the exchange rates move with BTC, it should come out about the same.

But there are some gems in there, WDC for naming one. One can't even be sure LTC will make it in the long run so why not WDC? Smiley

Other than that he's basically right, people just git cloned the code for LTC and renamed them. Then preminted a few million coins and launched the coin.

Would be nice to know why some exchanges boycotts the new coins though and lifts forward others, take for example BTC-e TRC/PPC/FTC/CNC but not WDC. Do they believe more in those alt currencies?

Ah well, some alt-coins are atleast a great way to test out a pool setup. You only get so far with testnet.

Litecoins are not as vulnerable to ASIC as Bitcoin,

I have noticed the dollar volume trading in LTC  ($1.o6 million) today was much higher than the dollar traded amounts for BTC ($ 663k) possible announcement by major exchange to trade and carry the currency.

I like LTC, think it is undervalued. Uses scrypt where even the little guy can use GPU power.

Litecoin is up 50cents today. Is it from speculation from the recent announcement from mtgox or just a manipulative pump? Should I dive in on this?

If anyone is interested in, I have 120RYC and about 200PWC. Give me a proposition to spend them for my or network's profit.

Is worth it to purchase ASICs right now? I was looking at BFL but it sounds like the lines to get them are very long. Are there other companies selling right now? Would it make sense to purchase for alt coin mining exclusively?

This is a natural result of the appearance of mining ASICs.  ASICs are so much faster than GPUs that soon GPUs will be unprofitable.  I would not buy a GPU specifically for bitcoin mining any more, you need FPGAs or ASICs to compete in this bitcoin economy.

Are you planning on holding any alt coins long-term? If so, how long do you plan to and which ones?

There is not really a point to the alt-coins that are out there. Do any of the provide a better standard? If so the people will switch but all I can see as of now are variations of bitcoin.

I just read that Mtgox has plans to open litecoin trading in July. Does anyone have any new information on this? I've noticed the price of LTC has spiked quite a bit today.

Does anyone know of any mtgox trading bots that actually works at the moment? I have some funds for trading but I don't have a lot of time on my hands right now. I'm willing to purchase one at the right price.. I'll need a video with a demonstration first.

If you were lucky enough to join the bandwagon early on you can mine quite a few coins. But It's best to sell them as soon as you can.
if the coin lost it's hype the coins value will diminish

or buy them early

yep most alt coins are just quick pump and dumps! it's sweet when you can get in early and dump on all the fools, but you know, feels sort of crappy knowing that it's pretty much a ponzi scheme

I am holding LTC for speculative reasons.  The world is just now waking up to Bitcoin.  It would be too much to overwhelm people with altcoins at this point.

I see a future in coins such as digital coin.Because of the large amount of development pushing the coin to do new things, this seems really community based as well. other coins like franko, noirbits and argentum seem to have a lot of support around them with further development to.I think driving for true alternative coins can make them valuable instead of a bunch of clone "alternative" coins.

Thoughts on Alt-Coins vs Litecoin??

Definitely litecoin. It already has intrinsic value that people would pay for.
