I think the altcoins are what bitcoin needs because if everyone was mining bitcoin the difficulty would increase like crazy.
Also the whole fun of mining would be gone. These altcoins are fun to mine because on low hardware you could mine several coins a day.
Personally i think besides litecoin, that yacoin has a good chance because of the CPU-only mining.
But only time will tell.

Anyone know how to reduce stales when mining low diff alts like WDC?

...or, anyone know of a site that shows % stales (or how I can calculate it) for the type of coins?   I'd like to show that on my site. thanks!

Almost all of the alt-coins are there are going to be a waste of time.  They're being created to take advantage of people who get super excited about different things and then get pumped and dumped.

Be careful about wasting time with too many alt coins.

I bet thats the kind of thinking many had about Bitcoins in the beginning but look where it is now. I am not bashing you in anyway, I just feel like qualifying your statement. People should really research what their going into because maybe one of the Alt-coins will have a boom like BTC.

I would be interested to hear
which coins more exactly - you think -
will see a boom like Bitcoins ?

Which one(s) is(are) your favorit(s) ?
There is no way to tell what will take off, because there are so many factors that determine why a coin does well. I think digitalcoin has a useful benefit to it and I am seeing community support. Unfortunately, I don't hold much of it, but I would like to see it gain acceptance, because I would like to one day make live retail purchases with a *coin.

I try to mine LTC here and there, it seems OK. I'm too worried about the exchange rates dropping. We'll see what happens when the bitcoin network gets hammered with all these ASIC's.

Any new and _innovative_ altcoins out there?

+1. Forking BitCoin is easy. Actually improving it is hard.

What do you guys think about litecoin?

For me it's the only real alternative to bitcoin.

and NVC
Novacoin is interesting and well supported by a developer. But people still view it as a ScamCoin (although arguably there is no scam in it). I just do not see it breaking out of this negative image

with the change in time  Wink

As im not yet able to post where it is best for that, will ask here.

Is anyone mining DigitalCoins on this pool ? http://next.afraid.org:8119/static/

I noticed a lot of missing block rewards, which were not credited to my wallet. I was mining full time on there, getting nice payouts but some blocks were not sent.
Any idea what that may caused ?

Just try litecoin vs bitcoin transaction for yourself. Litecoins a noticeably faster - this is kind of great. I think there might be potential for litecoin.

Any thoughts about YAC, PPC, TRC, FTC?

Which one do you think will get some real value in the future and which ones do you think will be dumped completely and worthless?

YAC is something new. There might be something there
PPC uses a proof of stake mechanism in addition to proof of work. I believe it has potential. The problem is there is no limit on the number of coins to be minted (other then the global limit of 2 bn coins) so I am not sure about inflation
TRC is a clone of bitcoin just to similar to be winning
FTC is again too similar to litecoin. There is a speed difference but my litecoin transactions are nearly instant already. I do not see a value
