I'm trying to work out which altcoin to invest my kh/s in. It seems Goldcoin is run by a bunch of arrogant teenagers looking for quick profit. Worldcoin seems to have potential but there's no guarantee it'll be traded on any major exchanges. So I'm thinking either BQC or LTC. What other promising coins are out there?

I am holding LTC for speculative reasons and have a few YAC as well that I mined using a free Amazon AWS voucher I had. I wonder what's going to happen to these coins.

someone said ripple is scam, but some others said it's legitimate. I feel confused.

If you look at what is most profitable to mine in real time, some of the other scrypt based currencies seem to come out on top.  Litecoin is definitely an early leader but because of the number of people mining it, the profitability is dropping.  It wouldn't take much of a price swing to make another coin the best option in terms of return on your mining investment.

http://www.coinchoose.com/ has a great comparison chart for people looking to choose an alt coin to mine.

I think we will see a lot of alt-coins disappear unless they serve a particular purpose such as namecoins. I got my money on Litecoins to be the big leading as it currently is. Who do you think is in the third spot? Terra?

It seems like Alt-coins are an opportunity to make a lot money if you can spend a little on PR.  Penny stocks work the same way.  Its more than just "pump and dump" because people are creating real demand.  Savvy investors used to buy penny stocks low and then blast news articles about the company and how well it was doing and invariably there is a spike in price.

It's illegal to do this now for anything traded on a U.S. stock exchange, but since these alt-coins are totally unregulated, there's nothing stopping anyone from using those tried and true tactics on whatever coin they may be holding at the moment.   Why not try to ride the wave on an Alt coin that looks like its getting good PR?  I've made a solid return on my investment just by playing the Ups and Downs on the alt-coin marketplace.

As long as you look at them as instruments for day trading, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be mining them and trading them. Why not let the free market decide what survives?  Natural selection is beautiful that way.

I am holding LTC for speculative reasons.  The world is just now waking up to Bitcoin.  It would be too much to overwhelm people with altcoins at this point.

definitely mining worldcoins... only one with a decent name and image... in terms of exchange rate, check out the google doc wdc/ltc exchange
They're also the most profitable to mine right now by a significant margin.

Im wondering if it pays to solo mine LTC? I have a HD7970
You'd need a farm of them to solo mine at this point; I think 20Mh/s is the minimum you want before you start solo mining.

I would continue mining bitcoins, because theyr worth something, and would keep some value for a long time.

I agree with OP, most Alt coins are just pumped-dumped shortly after.
