It's software and can be manipulated.

Casino's has to win, to stay in business. They give back, just enough for you to come back for more.

Ever wondered, why there are so many cameras in a casino? If you think it's only to catch cheaters, you will be wrong. ^Evil Grin^

That's why I prefer bitcoin gambling (of course I am talking about trusted provably fair sites) to Vegas.
With a good implementation of PF, the site cannot control the bet result completely and the gamblers will easily know when the site is cheating.

I would say a site is rigged if the house edge is greater than what is advertised / disclosed.
This is pretty much it. However it is somewhat more complicated then this.

A casino will generally be considered to be rigged if a bet that should have won, for whatever reason does not pay out as a winning bet. This is actually somewhat common for even reputable casinnos however when it is discovered by the site operators they will reimburse players who should have won

it means they win 100% or most of the time.

Similar to a ponzi scheme.

Take Dicebitco.in for example. It was caught skipping winning bets. In this way, the house edge ended up a lot higher than the advertised 1%

After it got caught, the owner started betting himself through an alias winning everything and clearing out the investor's money.

Wow thats just gotta suck.

I heard about that incident. What do you think about my comment above on primedice. I mean I saw that guy lost so much.

Very likely a random incident. Its quite possible.

Primedice is well known and has a lot of traffic. They have more to lose if they try anything and get caught.

rigged means the results are predetermined/determined

Well then all bitcoin sites are "rigged" as the results are (pre-)determined by both your client seed and the site's server seed in all provably fair sites.

Heh. +1!

Dooglus has explained this a number of times.  I recommend if you are interested in learning to go read the old Just-dice.com posts.

ah I see...
but someone from a dice site told me that the admin is watching the bets and when you get too much profit, the admin will make it so that you lose all of your balance.. is that even possible?
Of course it is... sadly. Thats why gambling is not good at all because "bank" always will win. In more "fair" way or not fair way. No matter.

rigged means the odds are fixed to always be bad for you and good for the sites.

so say a coin flip game is 50/50 then if it was rigged it could be something like 20/80 (80 being the site)

ah I see...

Some sites offers the option to verify the integrity of all rolls and confirm they aren't modified.
I don't think it would be a good idea for an admin to do that.. even if some ppl made huge profits, there's a lot of other ppl loosing so it's not a problem.

It's really important that the site offer a provably fair system that shows you the encrypted server seed and allows you (this is really important) to set your own client seed. If the site automatically sets the client seed for you (i.e. oh saaaay... freebitco.in / freedoge.co.in) then they can assign a losing client seed so in cases like that, remember to change the client seed.

Also, some sites use the server time as well in the SHA calculation, and so the gambling sites could potential change it slightly to create a losing bet.

House always win ==> rigged ? no its normal  Grin
If house always lose , there will be no gambling site in this internet world.
Sometimes we lose ,sometimes we win . But if we always lose = rigged ? 99% Yes

Yup, there is a house edge in casinos to make the odds slightly in favor of the house.
So for a 2x bet, you won't get 50% chance of winning but just 49.5%. In the long term, the gamblers will lose. Smiley

Ya that was for sure a dick move.

Note that a couple other 'riggers' have faces consequences.

Butterfly labs from what I've read, and also the pireat40 dude. And there's always the risk of messing with the wrong people. Staying honest is always the best way to go about it, imo.

Once I played on a poker site. Don't remember the name. They had some 6 seat sit and go's. I was rather proficient at such tables, and they claimed that if you won 6 in a row, you would get a superbonus and win quite the substantional amount of money. I managed to win 5 in a row many times, however on the 6th attempt, there was always some kind of freak occurence that prevented me from winning. So I had 5 wins, then 2nd place several times. In the end I realized that it was indeed rigged, and probably there was no superbonus at all either.

It's extremely easy for a poker site to introduce subtle issues into their software that's hard to detect.

Classical examples of rigging is Las Vegas casions that have one-armed bandit machines near the entrance that have a high payout. So people get into the room, start playing and wins a lot, and they're thinking 'oh gee... it's my lucky day', so they proceed to other machines, or games and loses it all, which was the intention of the Casino in the first place.

Also if you run a poker site, there's nothing preventing you from looking at the hole cards of other players, and thus ripping players off in high stakes games for instance. The problem is however once a site get caught, it loses all credibility in the online poker community.

Anyway, the poker site makes money off comission, so if the operator is smart, he stays legit, he will still profit!

It could happen. It all depends on what odds he was playing - if he was shooting for a 100x lotto win by betting 100:1 then yeah, he could lose 99 times in a row to a single win. Primedice does offer client side seeds and tells you before the roll what the server side seed is, so you can take both after the fact and the result and determine whether or not the random number generated jives with the seeds. Primedice is probably on the up and up.. probably.
