Just to end the thread:

I peeled it and cashed it. Using a sharp knife to lift up the sticker worked well, and left the coin looking good (in fact, it almost looks unopened). Typing the minikey from under the hologram to the 'Sweep' menu in Electrum wallet worked fine for sending the coins to an exchange.

Now I guess I have to find an Android phone from somewhere to install Coinomi so I can collect the value from the forks.

I won't be selling the empty Casascius coin, for now at least.

Thanks and cheers.

Congrats on the profits! I love seeing people end up doing well from Bitcoin. Did holding the funds on the coin help you hold out longer than if they were in your regular wallet?

You can use electron cash to sweep the b!cash (BCH).  Electron Cash is a fork of Electrum.

Bitcoin was around 44 euros when I bought the coin. So price for the 25 BTC coin was around 1100 - 1200 €.

love a great investment Smiley

Are you selling the redeemed coin? I am interested, please send pics with your user name and date next to it. Thanks

Thanks, I won't be selling the redeemed coin for now.

I haven't actually peeled it yet, I plan on doing it tomorrow (I still didn't figure out how to get Bitcoin Gold out of the coin without using Coinomi).

Fun fact.

Did you know only 13% of all the 25BTC Casascius coins were peeled in 2017.

I would first sweep the BTC..then use the coinonomi way for the Btc Cash

You can sweep BTGs with coinomi too. Pretty easy really..

Peel that bad boy and make a video!

Honestly, as much as I hate to say it...peeling is likely the best choice. I will say I know of a 25 that was saved from that very recently though. Shipping a Cas 25 uninsured via USPS flat rate was quite nerve racking  Huh (was not my coin btw)

Slightly off topic, but why not use registered mail?

Back on topic, as much as it pains me to say it, OP will get the most value by peeling this coin and then auctioning the spent coin here or ebay.

I can see the justification as not wanting to trigger suspicion, but that would be an incredibly nerve wracking couple of days waiting for USPS  Shocked

Worth a flight and a rent a car transaction within the states.  Can fly in the morning and red eye home, faster than overnight shipping too.  Yeah I'd say that's a nerve wracking delivery at this point

Make sure you take plenty of photos of the coin before you peel it.  Also, if you're comfortable doing this, disconnect your phone from the internet and cell towers (airplane mode) and make a video of your peeling and redeeming the coin.  Wait until you've redeemed and moved the funds to a safe wallet, then upload your video to youtube.  There are not many good videos online showing peeled coins; and a 25 BTC peeling video would be epic!

Agreed.
Safety & security  is really important,
And making a video of peeling it would be..
Educational & Eye catching for newbies! (Not sure too much attention is whether good or not though)

Please make a good memory with the coin before peeling it.
I Mean it!

Thank you.. Smiley
