What you did was really appreciable and respectful, most of the people nowadays wouldn't even have replied to their emails and would have used all the money without anyone knowing who exactly used that amount. What you did by returning the amount was the best decision. And hope you get what you were promised by the company and make even more than the mistaken received amount!
Keep us updated, whether you got your tokens or not.
All the best!

Wow good for you. Really good and happy to see people like you still in the world.

As for me, if the same thing happened to me, I would have kept that amount in a instant. No questions asked. Like you said, in the crypto world, they can't do much about it and I would have no problem keeping the 9000$

you are a lucky guy. Someone is regretting, 9.6 ETH is a big amount and I dont think you have a lot of money when you just invested $70 in their ICO, so maybe you will never pay back for them. Just enjoy it.

Your values serves you right! After all, its the inner peace that will ultimately make us happy. For people who's external motivation is money, the opposite could had happen, banking on the reason that this is a decentralized world and a mistake is usually irreversible. As for me, i would do the same thing as you did as such act is rare and is a treasure to behold.

Wow, that's indeed a big amount. Even though many people are saying that they would have returned the money as you had, the truth is, most people would have kept the money for themselves. So that's a big job you have done there and it should be fully appreciated. I hope scammers learn from your honesty.
What would I have done? I think I would have kept 10% and sent them 90% back! And it is in fact not immoral also. Because in many countries the person who finds a lost/stolen wallet gets to keep a % of money as a symbol of gratitude from the wallet owner.
You have done a good Karma, it will surely help you someday!

Hey all

So today was an interesting day. I decided I wanted to invest in a projects crowdsale. I sent two small transactions to them and in return I was supposed to get 9.6 tokens worth 70 usd but they accidentally sent 9.6 ethereum which you may now is worth around 9800 us dollars.

I was going back and forth on what to do because this was the most money I have ever seen. After trying to negotiate with them as they sent me an email right away I ended up doing the right thing and sending all of the ethereum back.

Ultimately I know there was not much they could do in terms of the crypto world but I wouldn't have been able to sleep well keeping money that didn't belong to me.

Has this every happened to anyone else before. What would you all have done I'd like to hear....
You are a good man, kudos to you if that happens to be i might be able to sleep well too, eitherway getting a huge money out of nothing isnt a good idea because you will spent it faster because you didnt earned it in a hard work, well done friend you are did a good job,you will receive more blessings.

so btw the reason this happened was because it wasnt through a eth smart contract. I purchased with coin payments so they manually had to send the tokens to my wallet that was on my account. This goes to show that it may not be a good idea for projects to take currencies other than ETH, it allowed for human error. I still havent received the token yet but i think they are in the uk so its pretty early in the morning there. i really hope they keep their word... im hoping that when this token gets on an exchange ill be able to sell it for a nice profit, maybe even for more than the mistaken amount i received.

Honestly it's too tempting but you did a great job for giving it back and I can say you have a good heart. If it's mistaken sent to someone that's not like you they'll definitely think it twice and the worst not giving it back. However, if it's not came from a crowdsale like it just came from a personal address and he mistakenly sent to mine maybe there's no turning back for me because it's his fault. Like come on don't be hypocrite about this because we will think the same way tho. We all know that we didn't really know who's address is that so there's no way to return it to you like don't hope for it.

I honestly dont know exactly what I would have done if I would have recived such a big amount of money at once. Most of us dont earn than amount even if a few months with hard work. We all think now that would keep the money because hey it is free money but thats not the truth. You make wrong things, at a certain moment bad things are going to happen with you. Probably I would also return the money back because thats the right thing and I if sometime it would happen to me in the future to make this mistake I would like to get my money back.

Nobody can guarantee you will get your money back to your wallet although you did the right thing before.
I also dont know what i will do if i get money to my wallet directly as this big amount.

I haven't experienced that yet, but if that happened to me, I will do as you did, I will return those 9.6 ETH to them. Why? Because first, that money is not mine to not to return it. Secondly, like you, my conscience might not cope with that, knowing that I know I held money that wasn't mine in the first place. Third, we do know that most of the ICO has no budget to fund their ideas and make it happen, that's why they perform such a campaign to raise money that they will use for finance. Not returning that money to them might even affect their progress, especially with regards to actualizing their development plans for their project.

You're very nice man. It was big money and I think transfer it back is good decision for you. And the developer of project can learn about that so in the future they not make same mistakes. Appreciate it.

btw the have also locked my account on their site. i really hope they now do the right thing and keep their word.

You did the right thing for sure. Yea it would have been great to have all that money but karma would have got you in the long run. Plus, I'm assuming they have some of your personal information. At least your email address, so it would not have gone away. I did not like how they responded to but I bet they were very concerned.

Honestly this was one of the hardest things i have had to do in life. They originally told me they would give me 150 of their tokens which equals out to about a pre-launch value of 1300 usd. Though i must admit, i tried to negotiate with them at first to keep a portion of the tokens and the founder responded with, "What you have provided instead is, regrettably, written evidence of your intention to misappropriate funds that do not belong to you". that sentence really pissed me off because he was basically accusing me of embezzlement. First off i didnt steal the ETHER YOU GAVE IT TO ME! At this point they havent sent me the 9.6 tokens i purchased or the 150 other tokens they agreed to but it has only been about an hour and a half. im not sure how i feel about this all, it is just so crazy.
