As long as you mined on the correct block chain, your coins are still attached to your address. If you install the new wallet, and insert your wallet.bat file (your backup), then you will get all your coins in your wallet.

If expected p2pool payments stop coming in and it is still synced to a network you are probably forked. You can check getinfo and getpeerinfo for clues too.

Question for wzttide - I notice that my payments very frequently (though not always) arrive in "pairs" - i.e. two absolutely identical amounts a few seconds apart - is that expected?

Well, I think that presumes people have time to follow the thread the whole time and very likely they don't.
Time is also an investment, if you don't invest the time to follow the thread, you may lose some return. Let's hope the losses aren't that substantial. Probably one Chinese GPU farm been soloming from the start on the wrong chain and has 10000 CGA.

My offer stands, if someone is able to determine who lost out and by how much, and is willing to administer some sort of compensation fund, I will donate. I think it will be good for the coin generally if we at least attempt to make good, even if it is not a full return.

If you had read the thread it said only mine at anomalypool or you will mine on a forked chain. The responsibility is on you to read the entire thread.
A little bit harsh I feel, it's been bloody hard to keep track of what is going on. And especially since you said a little earlier:
I might be willing to donate to a fund to help out people who solomined on a forked wallet once we get everything sorted out. Just stick around.
My personal view is it was pretty well pure luck that I was mining on anomolypool and therefore, I would certainly be prepared to donate, say 10% of my coins, IF it is possible to tell with a reasonable degree of accuracy who has missed out and by how much due to mining on a forked blockchain?
I have more sympathy for the solominers because the bugs are causing the wallets to fork. but mining at the wrong pool when it was announced not to mine there I have less sympathy. If you mined at the right pool and it was announced that that one is good again and it forked anyway after the update I have sympathy and should be included in the fund.

Since it's listed in OP Im going to be brave and see if altcoinpool is working, so far the other two worked after I cleared out my old blockchain.
So "Community Premine" should concluded somewhere around 9pm EST tonight.

Well, I think the term "premine" is missleading. Everybody had the chance to mine AND has still the chance to mine. There will be only less rewarding blocks, that's all. If the hashrate stays this low it'll also stay easy to mine CGA. To make this coin rare, we'd probably need 100 or even 1000 times more hashrate Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!

The term "premine" definitely tends to make some folks crazy though.
