Just joined BitcoinTalk forum and I must say, I'm quite surprised to see that it has turned into a place where 50% of the forum active members are promoting Bitcoin mixers, betting or casinos. Was hoping for more discussions on the technology and its possibilities.

I am surprised that you went through the forum and the only thing that got your attention is advertisements. This is a sign that you are not here to learn but to find fault and criticize. If you search the boards and sections of the forum you will find many interesting posts that can expand your frontier of crypto knowledge. If you want to access current and valid information about Bitcoin and others, this forum is one of the best in the world. I will suggest you forsake your current mentality and open your mind to learning. You also have the privileges of starting discussions on the area you find interesting and I am sure you will get the needed response. I don't also think that there is anything wrong with advertising mixers, casinos, exchanges, and other services because they are not illegal services.

We have another expert who joined forum few days ago and he already knows how advertisement in forum works.  Roll Eyes
Don't forget to send official complain to youtube, google and all other platforms for promoting bunch of crap all the time that have nothing to do with content or videos you are watching.
Almost everything in bitcointalk forum is related with bitcoin, so it's only natural to see crypto companies promoting here, and some of them are doing it for years.

What's wrong in promoting Bitcoin mixers, betting or casino? Does it reduce my person or the quality of my post? Wearing a signature is a way of promoting and creating exposure of the brand one is putting on, so it does affect the person or his posts in anyway. They forum is a very large place and people post on different boards they think they can make contributions or comfortable in. If you are here to learn about technology, you can ask forum members for assistance and guidance in the areas you need help and not to be complaining about signatures.

Is there a signature campaign promoting something other than mixers, casinos, altcoins that seems useful? If it is, and even if the return from it is low, I expect that more people will try to join it, but gambling campaigns, mixers, and casinos almost represent about 90% of the active campaigns that pay in bitcoins, and you rarely find different campaigns, but the campaigns do not force users to do a specific thing, for example Do not force them to promote their services within the posts or modify the style of participation in line with the campaign.

The problem with you is not you're looking around and you judged us and this forum, we have a lot of discussions about technology and everything that evolves around Cryptocurrency, instead you targeted the promoters and what they promote we don't see anything wrong with that we are not promoting scam platforms, and its the choice of visitors if they want to join and use the projects that we're promoting in our signature.

The forum is still the best place to find anything and everything about Cryptocurrency, you have an issue if you fail and miss seeing this, you're not looking at the forum in the right way.

What do you mean by promoting them. Because we are not convincing your or saying you anything to join us in our posts. We just wear signature and avatar just to advertise them. Nobody could ask you to say join us join us until you have asked by yourself. For example, now you created this topic, you will not find a single person say hey join our gambling site we will make your money double or any other service.

Instead you will find many ranked, respected members of this platform will provide there useful insight in there posts from which you can get benefit. If you don't like the answer or didn't understand it you could show your feelings and then can learn from their replies. I hope you got my point.

Why are you surprised?

Mixers and the gambling or casinos they promote have nothing to do with the knowledge they share here in the forum; this forum's users have an interest in helping one another and are always happy to render assistance relating to both real-life scenarios and Technical aspects of Bitcoin and general cryptocurrency.

This forum has different sections; if you want to learn about technical topics in this forum, go to Development & Technical Discussion and see the related discussions relating to technical.

I am confident that this forum is one of the best places to learn about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency for free; therefore, if you truly want to learn, stop making references to the Mixers and casinos that forum members promote; the main goal is to learn, and I am confident that if you drop your question, you will be answered immediately.

Welcome to the forum. You are Four days old here.
My first question to you is, what do you want to learn? If you are talking about Bitcoins technology and it's possibilities then you my friend have failed to go through the Bitcoin development and technical discussion board, you have also failed to look at the mining, technical support and project development board. Until you have done that which I think you haven't, you cannot conclude that discussion around Bitcoin technology isn't discussed here.

Its because there are no other open signature campaign. You think they promote something for free? Surely that they want to lurk around here with a privilege of being compensated on their contributions at least.

As long as a project even its an altcoin or new project or new website offering new tech or innovation as long as they willing to pay a forum users. Any active member would likely to join that. Or course except those scam one or might be a scam one.

If you joined here for meaningful tech and insightful discussions about Bitcoin's potential and innovations in the crypto space, then focus on those topics and keep an eye out for those conversations. Just ignore the boards and sections that are not interesting to you, and if it disappoints you, remember to prioritize the subjects that brought you here.

So, what? You pose a false dichotomy. As you've been told, if you want technical discussions, go to the technical boards and you'll get plenty of interesting discussions no matter the signatures. It is precisely the signatures that pay well, the ones that pay the best, that encourage quality content to be written. So don't complain so much, go for the technical boards and enjoy.

It's actually added in the profile attribute, not included in their post content. If you are bothered by that display, I suggest you change some settings (I don't know if these settings are available for low rank users):
Go to Look and Layout Preferences > enable "Don't show users' avatars." and "Don't show users' signatures."

Problem solved.

50%, is it too high?

Majority of active signature campaigns in bitcointalk are from Bitcoin mixers, gambling sites and cryptocurrency exchanges but I am unsure that your information is true. 50% of active forum member are promoting them, maybe it is your feeling and you did not get it from any data scrapers.

Is there something wrong with that? Do you find a law or restriction prohibit someone to promote the services you mentioned? Since anyone is free to promote whatever they want. If worried to experience financial loss on those promotion then do your own diligence to research on what you are seeing and ignore if you don't like the services you see in this forum. There are proper threads to see what technologies like so better go there and you can get a proper discussion about things you like.

What's wrong with that?
I'd bet that you'll do the same when you can able to join the signature campaign and wear the signature banner.

You're free here whatever you wanted to do as long as you're following the forum rules.
Wearing a signature whether you're promoting a mixer or a gambling company doesn't mean you can't join a healthy discussion besides, they aren't spamming the company that they promote.

So wait for it that you can wear and get paid from signature and how does it feel?

Does a signature of any kind affect the kind of thing that I am to discuss on the forum? NO. My signature space is a hat on my head; the cap does not tell me what kind of discussion to enter. Those who have technical knowledge are active on those technical boards irrespective of what campaign signature they are wearing; they will still be active on their favorite board. Wearing a mixer signature code doesn't mean I will have to be discussing mixer in the entire forum. A signature campaign is different from a shilling campaign, where all your job is to promote whatever project you choose in whatever way you can.

Op, I believe you have a wrong idea of how the signature campaign of a thing works. You can just go over to the technical board and gain any kind of technical knowledge that you need; the boards are always open.

There is plenty of discussion on the technology and its possibilities as well. It depends on the boards you visit. Mixers and gambling are discussed mainly in the Services sections, while the rest of the forum covers many other topics. Also, just because someone promotes mixers or gambling does not mean that is all they are interested in.

So, do you have an interesting topic or question that you want to discuss? Find a suitable board and open a topic. I am sure many forum members will join you there.

Currently, the mixing and gambling industries have the largest turnover of money. New projects either do not have enough initial (real) capital for promotion here on the forum or they even think that it is not important to present them here. Compared to some earlier days when Bitcointalk was the starting point for all crypto businesses, now there are a lot of other platforms and in combination with social networks, they have reduced the influence of the forum.
Nevertheless, the most precise information can still be obtained here, especially if we are talking about the technical side. Finally, does anyone expect a direct discussion in the advertising space?

Nothing wrong with promoting businesses in the cryptocurrency space. If anything it drives more people to be involved in this industry even. Plus, 90% of the active members here who wears signatures like me and are promoting businesses provide relevant help and answers that are informed, so it's not like no one's getting anything good from this. And to top it all off moderators in this forum offer all-day surveillance to staunch shitposters so the whole site's clear from them. I don't see any problem about promoting a business, and getting paid at the same time while helping people get valuable information or advice with whatever crypto-related issue they are having. Maybe you're just salty?
