One cool thing I discovered recently was "bitcoin days destroyed"?
I saw a discussion about this here-
http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/845/what-are-bitcoin-days-destroyed

and thought that this was a really cool metric.
Coins that haven't been moved in a while suddenly getting transferred is a very interesting topic.

I don't think its actually possible to know the exact number of people using Bitcoin because each person can have multiple addresses.

Well, actually every holder can create different bitcoin wallets so it is really hard to trace and in general bitcoin is anonymous. The volume of transactions is our only way to determine and make a good estimate of the actual number of people using bitcoin.

but then again, exchanges with maybe a thousand wallets where they generate hundreds of transactions per day with each wallet, will also not be a good measurement tool. i think the best estimates comes from the number of unique registered users on exchanges. getting an estimate closer than that is not possible.

You lead and I'll watch you walk away.
Well, the last time I counted I found 36 people who use bitcoin. The rest of the people just talk about it and wish they had some.

Really? You met 36 people that use Bitcoin? I live in San Francisco, ground zero for the Bitcoin movement, home of Coinbase and I think in 6 years I've met twelve people that use Bitcoin.

There has been 100 million transactions on the blockchain in all of history, we know that many people do hundreds or even thousands of transactions and some websites will do hundreds of transactions PER DAY, so it seems fairly impossible that there is even 1 million users. Maybe a little less.

no more 100k people in the world using daily btc...  at least one time in the life I think we are around 500k users
i think you might be right about it, there are not a lot of users with bitcoins at the moment, though i hope the trends will change in the future and bitcoin will be more popular

Is there a way to determine the number of people who are actually using Bitcoin till date? Who would have access to such information? Meaning a way to find out, how many new people have used Bitcoin in 2016 , so that we can say exponential growth is natural not artificially created by hoarders.
I don't think so since making a account is just so easy to do and some people here make 1-10 accounts for security reason. So there's no way to know how many people are using bitcoin.
i agree with you good point of view that user make multiple account for security reason and i also think that is impossible to count the actual number of bitcoin users .

well though if people have only dust amounts of bitcoin they still kinda use it and they spread the news about bitcoin so i think that we can call them users too

what accounts are you talking about? an account on this site or is there any other place that you have in mind?
or is it possible that you are calling bitcoin wallet or addresses an account?

in any case knowing such numbers like number of accounts on a wallet website or number of used bitcoin addresses with some BTC on them can give you a pretty good guess about how many users bitcoin have.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!
it's a little tricky where one person can have several wallets address so we can not calculate by how much the number of wallet addresses that have been doing transaction.

It is really good way to guess how many people are using the bitcoins, otherwise i don't think that any calculator is here that we know about it, wallet addresses help us to calculate the number of the users. It is difficult thing because many peoples of different countries are don't know what is bitcoins. Actually in my country only few peoples are using the bitcoins.

i think if you want to know the actual number of people "using bitcoin" then you have to see where they are using bitcoin and check the number of accounts/users in those places. for example in services like gyft or even using as investment so check out number of users on exchanges because people have only one exchange account.

There are around 40k registered accounts on 8btc ATM. Hope it helps.

and there are 866K registered accounts on bitcointalk Wink

Yeah, 860k sock puppets and 6k actual users. lol

i dont think so the only way is by following the growth of btc
rise of price means more people using
Rise does not really mean more people using but it kinda does affect the number of people using it indirectly and it is right that there is not really a way to determine the actual number of people using.

If world bank could calculate the number of fiat users in the world, so we will know the number of bitcoin user.
But unfortunately, it doesn't.
Huh.... please read again about your post, the world bank it's not having relationships with bitcoin and this is just a bullshit, never you think if there are the fiat users is not a part of bitcoin users.
