I only wanted to add Beware of PayPal and other reversible transfer services
since escrow cannot be reliably used in such cases. Personally, I only exchange with one member here who is a very trustworthy btc/paypal exchanger. I would never trade here for any reversible currency with any newbie or non-trusted account.  It takes time to establish trust, and yes, the system is broken in many ways, but for the most part, I find it pretty good overall, you just have to really pay attention to account sale and neg feedback ratings.
Yes, escrow will not help when you are exchanging to Paypal or other similar reversible transfer services. The payments can be reversed of to 180 days(correct me if I'm wrong). Escrow will only guarantee the delivery of the item/cash in question. They won't help you if the payment get chargebacked.

Actually, it can be as much up to 6 months - it's really not paypal's decision, it's the card that was used behind the purchase attached to the paypal account. For example, if I have a Mastercard and it allows chargebacks up to 6 months, I can do it that way if i was a scammer and had used that card for the payment.

Also, NEVER mention Bitcoin or crypto in any Paypal transaction in the notes, as I hear they will limit/lock your account and it will be a pita. I have never had this happen, but I have heard of many stories resulting from things like newbies putting in the notes "Thanks for the Bitcoins!!" etc...

YMMV... Good luck, be safe everyone. Smiley
Yea, cryptocurrencies trading are currently against Paypal's T.O.S. So if you do mention them, just be prepared to get kicked out of Paypal.

If you're new, you can follow the default trust. It's a trust list originally created by Theymos, the forum's admin but has since evolved on its own. You han read more about how trust works here. tl;dr People with green trust have received feedback from members in the list in your trust list. You shouldn't trust such people blindly either. There are some trusted escrow services you could use though, here's a list.

Using a escrow? Is that like using a middleman?

Yes escrow means middleman . Like if you are buying something from person A then you should deposit the money to escrow(middleman's) address then the escrow after confirming the money ask the Person A to release or send the product to the Person B then the escrow will release the funds to Person A . And Person B is you who is buying .

Rank in combination with the amount of trust reviews is a pretty good indicator Also look on the trust page and look for this:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=93211.
This user changed his/her password recently.

Most of the time it means the account was compromised or even worse hacked.

As I am new to this forum I do not know much about it, I am confused on how the whole system works here. I used to be a HackForums member where we rely on reputation, and trust scans.

What do I have to rely on here to find out if someone is trusted? And is there any way to find out if I should avoid a user at all cost.

EX: Is there a public scam report database or sub forum dedicated to it?

I'm turning down users left and right because I assume they are not trusted because I myself cannot figure out if they are not by their member stats.
There is no way you can exactly figure out whom to trust, you wild think high ranking user or user with green trust will he trustworthy but it's a possibility that the account is bought it's very easy to buy a sr/hero accounts even with the green trusts.

You see - you've got so many responses for just a couple of hours. That will save you a lot of time

Just be careful listening the advices from the people with the big paid signatures

Honestly speaking i don't trust here anyone here from few guys like monbux etc . I only trust few people here and those whom i met in my real life . Also you can check the trust of the person by going to his/her profile . however many Deep Green Trusted member scammed here so i lose my faith in Green trust system.

And especially pay extra-caution to users with excessive, cheap looking paid signatures. They will scam you for 5 cents

guess who's back
the best thing is to use escrow , but there are some here who are trusted
you can check users last trades and how is the general feedback about them , especially in the exchange section you can pick a lot of people's history
and when you get confused use escrow

Use an escrow. Even you can see account with positive trust on their status is not really provide if the account can be trusted. Here the list escrow: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcointalk-escrows-trade-safely-855778

I would say the trust system here is broken.  It has been abused; trust has been purchased by some.  Accounts with trust have been hacked/bought/sold.
It's pretty much the wild west here.  There is a reputation and a scam accusations thread which can be useful.  It is located here

Good luck!

Agree with this. The trust system here broken.

It depends on what are you planning to do on this forum- selling and exchange?

There are 3-5 people in this biz who are well-known, respected and trusted

Treat the rest as a potential robbers

Every time use an escrow service (usually customer pays for it) until you and your customer will not establish a good relationships

So it obviously was bad idea for you to start selling $200 in BTCs - isn't?

First spend some time - especially in Subforums: Exchange, Market, Lending

In a week you will know about rating, trust, members, scam etc everything

And BTW - you can go to you exchange topic and answer my question Smiley

Yeah I did realize it's a bad idea starting out with $200 x3

>In a week you will know about rating, trust, members, scam etc everything
I need to know this sooner so I can do safe deals.
