While it may not be against the TOS you can't tell me that it's an ethical practice

The whole point of a trust system is being able to have the confidence in the person you are dealing with
When you buy and sell account you invalidate that and make it completely meaningless

As a direct result I'm unwilling to trust anyone of this forum when buying/selling/trading and so should everyone else until this sort of practice is outlawed

Then again some people would sell their own mothers just to make a quick buck

Good Riddance I say

Ethical -- perhaps not. But it isn't a particularly deep ethical question, considering that the market for these accounts is for signature advertising -- not scamming. The emphasis is generally on forum activity, not trust rating. Sure, scammers will scam, though.

That's fine

Now ask yourself the question why there are restrictions on new user accounts being able to create signatures

No matter which way you put it.. The only reason you buy and sell accounts are to get around restrictions/rules that have been placed there for a certain purpose

And to me that seems so counter-intuitive to impose the restrictions and allow the counter measures

It isn't hard to catch a scammer to be honest. I don't understand why people would - rep him for selling accounts. Sig advertisements were worth it.

Fair enough. I rarely see accounts get banned around here so it's pretty rare to see one happen.

This is to imform everyone who want to have business with Subud!. His account is banned yesterday. He cannot login to his account anymore nor read pm starting yesterday.

Those who pm and don't get reply please email him at [email protected].

interesting -- his profile does not indicate he is banned. profiles don't say when you are banned?

anyone with information on why he was banned please keep us updated. it shouldn't have had anything to do with buying and selling accounts -- clearly that is not against forum roles.

blasting PMs is the reason i see most commonly for bans.

for those interested in buying an account, see https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/wts-bitcointalk-forum-account-hero-member-631029

Account sales are looked down upon so it is a shady business to be apart of. Perhaps it may be partly a reason.

see the OP. it is clearly NOT a violation of TOS and mods have openly white listed buying/selling accounts.

Not sure but at a guess I'd say probably sending unsolicited PMs trying to buy accounts.

I wonder if it's permanent or just a temp ban?

From what I heard bans are permanent. Sucks because he seemed legit.

I saw theymos legalize the account trading, but are you required to report the account you sold and bought to theymos?

No. Most people don't tell anyone what account they have bought or sold as they usually get negbombed by a couple of users if they're found out (see subud's feedback).

It *is* a kind of shady business IMHO.  I mean, why can't folks just open an account for themselves (it's free/gratis!).  I really figure that the only reason someone would be buying accounts is that they're looking to spam the forum in one way or another and they need the higher activity in order to post more rapidly or with a larger ad-banner etc.

Can you guys think of any legitimate reasons for buying accounts rather than just using the one you already have (you have to already have one inorder to communicate with subud to buy, I think.)?

You've just described the main reason probably 99.9% of accounts are now sold for. It might be 'shady', but it's currently allowed by the forum and obviously they've created a market for accounts by changing the signature restrictions. You can email Subud rather than create an account, and plenty of people do open accounts for free and build them up, but some people obviously don't want to wait the time it takes to be able to participate in sig deals and think it's worthwhile just buying an account to skip the wait.

@escrow.pm pm sent.

Still selling accounts.

I think this is not looking so good if you have to resort to the tactics of escrow.pm in order to get noticed.  I don't know, I'm not interested in buying or selling accounts, I just find the whole thing a bit creepy.
