The units from AKminer were listed as used.

Did they also list/mention condition of the used ASIC miner?

I saw that AKminer was a verified seller an asicminervalue, but that's not the same as being trustworthy.

asicminervalue is known for sharing shady/scam seller and some user even accuse asicminervalue as scammer (see https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/ljmlbo/asicminersalecom_is_a_scam/).

But you're right.  Newbie's, like me, should definitely pay the money to buy from the manufacturer, or from bigger re-sellers.

This is why I always tell newbies to buy directly only in manufacturers or authorized/verified distributors dealing with unknown sellers like AKMiner will lead to some problem or being scammed.

Do they tell you that those miners that you buy are brand-new?

Actually, it's your fault why did you buy miners on non-authorized or verified sellers?

Next time if you are going to buy a miner please use this list here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/current-list-of-competitive-hardware-january-2020-5045732

Or try to contact offordscott to help you buy legit units.

The videos were not sent, and in the end 4 of the five machines had problems.  4 hash boards are completely dead, and another 5 overheat enough that I don't feel comfortable running them until they've been repaired.  The machines had rusty fan covers (so humid operating), and hadn't even been dusted with an air compressor.

So now i have one working machine for the price of five!

Going back to AKMiner and speaking with Joyson, he did have videos and sent them over finally claiming they didn't send the first time he tried, and four of the videos show machines with exhaust temps in the high 70C and low 80C.
This is their fault and not yours. They should act responsible and facilitate the return and refund for the damaged miners, anything less than that shows unethical behavior and fraud.

Someone else today had some complaints about the same company

I would never deal with AKMiner again and caution any and all to find an ethical vendor, of which AKMiner is not. I ordered 2 DR5s from AKMiner in July. After I sent payment they cancelled the order and claimed they never received payment. I’ve sent them screenshots of the payment, the transaction ID on the BTC blockchain, and six months later, I’m still waiting.

AKMiner might not send you what you paid for.

I bought 5 S17+ miners from them in December 2021, and was told twice that videos would be sent prior to shipping.

Joyson is prompt in his replies and polite, but will take no responsibility for sending faulty machines that I had no opportunity to see prior to shipping.

He claims any problems must have happened during shipping, but the videos show that they had problems before shipping.

I would not recommend AKMiner.
