I agree with Stellar and Cardano but Ripple is risky. It‘s only used by banks and not centralized. It‘s also just a currency, Stellar and ADA will have ICOs in the future. Replace it with NEO and you have a top selection that should give you some good returns in the next 6 months at minimum risk.
This week I bought two altcoins EOS and CMT. I sold EOS tokens when the price increased by 20%, and I will keep the CMT tokens until mid-end of August.

Today the altcoin market is falling. The bitcoin price has dropped slightly. you will see cheap prices to buy when altcoin market drops. altcoin market will rise again until the end of July. I see opportunities today to make short term investments and to buy and keep altcoins.
The altcoin to buy now is Ethereum, because now it has gone down to half of its price and will go up again soon. Another altcoin, a cheap one but a promising one, is TRON. I think it has great potential, it can give you up to 5 times returns in one year.

Etherum is not really doing fine now and this a great opportunity and buy now because the price is coming up soon and a great profit will be made from it when the price rises again.
Altcoin's best to buy now I think is Ethereum, Ethereum quality is still better among other Altcoin and now Ethereum is second after Bitcoin so I think ETH is very promising, now the market is still unstable and Ethereum prices have not fully recovered so this is the best chance to buy ETH and save it.
Well, this is more of a personal decision whether to buy altcoins now or not . No one truly knows if we are in a bull trap or bull run so one has to be really careful because purchasing .

I would recommend buying TWIST, a new coin, fork of Stratis, with amazing new features and roadmap, currently with a capitalization which is still below 1 M $, so a real bargain.
What altcoins are you guys picking up for cheap in this dip?
Picking bitcoin and rthereum, even this two is expensive but assurance to gain profit is there rather than picking cheap coin which mostly have only a smaller value and probably go to zero value and end the end lossing is the output.
IGNIS, NXT, BTG, PRL...I include Ignis, Nxt and Bitcoin Gold because these three Altcoins have been at very high prices, and possibly the next few years the price will go up 
Personally right now I do not sell anything yet and do not buy, I am very uncomfortable to save transactions in such an unstable market, I think I will lose more from operations with coins.
Alternative coin to buy now is ethereum.
