Check out this list of blockchain based apps:
http://dapps.ethercasts.com/

Look for a good entry point, there is a lot of volatility in Ether, don't buy at the top.

"altcoin to invest in" ....   that's harder than you think, holding a bag.
personal recommendation is that you should go with the flavors of the day, aka "trading", with short hold time.

2 of today's flavs are Decred and Warp.

good luck!

Ethereum could be the best coin to invest in. It is collaborating with Microsoft in certain projects. So the price rises.

I'm with monero. its less risky to go invest with the coins that are on top 10 in the exchange sites. The only question is when you are going to go short and profit. keep an eye to the market.

I would pick Gridcoin (GRC), as it is one of the more interesting coins out there.

Gridcoin (GRC) replaces mining with doing research for scientific projects, for example to cure Ebola (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/oet1/overview.do), fold proteins (https://boinc.bakerlab.org/) or find aliens (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/).

From a user's point of view, he simply has to run simulations from the different projects using the BOINC software (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/). Then the network comes to a consensus, who has contributed how much computing power to BOINC, which can bee seen for example here (http://www.gridresearchcorp.com/gridcoin/?result&t=CPID_Leaderboard). In some blocks this consenus is saved in the blockchain and the reward one gets when staking a block is proportional to how much research was recently done for BOINC by this researcher.

I also has very active development, here is the main forum: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/
More information and tutorial to set it up here: www.gridcoin.us

It'll be interesting to find an alien Grin
Do they found any?

Not for sure, but there were some interesting signals:

" However, it has identified several candidate targets (sky positions), where the spike in intensity is not easily explained as noisespots,[9] for further analysis. The most significant candidate signal to date was announced on September 1, 2004, named Radio source SHGb02+14a." , see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SETI@home#Results

I really like Gridcoin, the reward mechanism is fair and the community is pretty cool Smiley

In a world full of scams, I recommend you invest in VNL. It is a serious cryptocurrencie, the single currency that Poloniex accepts the transaction with only ONE confirmation and that the transfer occurs instantly.

This is hard to say. I invested into Ethereum recently and have made 12% so far even the price declined since two days. I would suggest to invest in coins with an good uptrend or good tech. Some POS coins are interesting, too.

Why don't you hold your Bitcoins? The price is increasing and it is possible to make 2-5% every month only by holding your Bitcoin in your wallet.

WARP, or Warpcoin, is going to release a v1.1 soon with integrated VPN client. I think you can make more than a few percent if you buy WARP and hold.

I remember dogecoin was quite cheap at the start because nobody got it would take off with the general population, seemed just another silly coin.  There was probably a way to tell but it wasnt obvious to me.
The coin I think is simple to use and fast, stable enough to hold is blackcoin which is being developed for a while now by a pretty dedicated set of people.   Thats also another clue, hard to say with new coins but regular work to improve a coin helps alot for it to succeed long term
