I use myetherwallet to hold my coins. A lot of bounty developers recommend this wallet because it is compatible to most ERC20 tokens. Using different wallets is not a good choice because you might get confused and you might mix your private keys.

No OP, you don't have to download different wallets for the altcoins to store them. All you have to do is get a multiwallet and you would be fine. Get freewallet or coinomi wallet from Google playstore if you use an android phone. It is that simple and easy to use.

Any software wallet that supports all major Altcoins?
unpopular coin not supported by wallet developers. you can use holytransaction but not all coins. I prefr to keep unpopuar coins in exchanger. I keep my eth in mew, or metamask, bitcoin in the blockchain.info. for others , I have waves.io. I don't like to download new coin becuase I am affraid that the coin will bring malware in my PC.

Any software wallet that supports all major Altcoins?

coinomi is a software wallet that can be downloaded to your android device (not sure if they also support other os ) though it can support all major altcoins also it has an option to add a coin or token just like on myether wallet.

What coins does myetherwallet use?
Can someone list all the altcoins that myetherwallet uses?  When i used it, it only showed ETH.

almost all altcoins and tokens are supported by myetherwallet. you need to add them manually if they dont show up but first you need to know the coins details like contract address, decimals and symbols and then click on add custom token then input the the correct details of the coin or token that you want to show.

If you’re into ERC20 bounties, you’ll definyely need MEW. You can store you tokens here from stakes you get from campaigning a project.

How do we know that the wallet for a specific coin is legit and not a virus/fake?

For example, can someone tell me what is the real wallet for

shift
lisk
iota

Are there lot of fake altcoin wallets out there?

I am using myetherwallet. It is an online wallet that can keep your altcoins. It is an open source wallet so you need to be aware to your security. You are the one that will make your account and your coins safe. You must save your private key because they don't recover your account. Even you are feeling unsafe to this wallet, still it is free and you can get your wallet in an instant so for me it is ok.
The wallet that i am using to store all of my coins are myether wallet and waves wallet. This two wallets are both popular  altcoin wallets that's why it is very easy to use or convenient and very safe to store all of your coins. You will not have any problem with these two wallets because it is really safe.

Using different wallets for different coins is confusing. So better minimize it.
Myetherwallet is mostly use here by many, all coins under ther ethereum platform is here. Also try coinomi at it caters a lot of coins, and you have your private keys here. And OP don't use exchange as wallet, don't store huge amount of coins, it can be hack anytime.

Get a hardware wallet this will cover all ethereum based tokens plus some major alter coins. For others coins,  download wallet if you want to join airdrop like byteball, or leave in bittrex if the amount is not significant

Its nearly impossible to download and follow all these wallets.
I am basically throwing them to trustable exchange and let them sit there.

I am using Ledger hardware wallet which I do not need to worry about security when downloading individual wallets.

For those coins that are not supported, I either keep it in Bittrex (if the amount is not huge) or I use the specific wallet for the coins.

Does anyone know why a coin like mobilego is not available on bittrex?

Does anyone know where to even buy a coin like mobilego then?

Where can you download mobilego, gamecredits and shift wallet?

Do you have the Mobile Go coins under  ETH based or Waves based? If it is ETH based, you can use myetherwallet and Waves wallet for Waves based. Shift and Game credit has its wallet in its official website

Hi.  I have just became a jr.  member and have been looking for wallets specially for eth and waves.  I have read your post about myetherwallet and assume that its for ethereum coins.  Can you please site some advantages and disadvantages in using that wallet?  Your help is much appreciated.

there are altcoins that have light wallets on top of their full node wallet. if you have issues with storing the whole thing like me (with slow internet or no space on your HDD) then just use those.
i know that Doge, LTC, Byteball from your list have light wallets. the first 2 have electrum forks and Byteball has its own thing.

and as for security, these top altcoins that a lot of people use are highly unlikely to be unsafe wallets. because many are using them.

To those of you who own a lot of altcoins, do you all download a wallet specifically for that coin?
not for all of them. only a handful of altcoins. so far i have only 2 of them: Litecoin and Bytalall
the rest of them i only keep for a short time and i want to dump them as fast as possible at the speed of light. so i keep them on exchanges and when i sell i withdraw the bitcoin which i gain and store that in my cold storage safely.

I assume those of you that trade on bittrex don't need a wallet since you keep the coins on the exchange right?  So for example if you have litecoin, lisk, etc... no wallet is necessary?
you should know that it is a risky move to hold anything on exchanges but it is sometimes necessary or more convenient that way.

Now to those of you who keep coins in wallets, how do you make sure the wallet you download is safe etc?
install a virtual machine like VirtualBox, and install an OS there (whatever you like, Win7, Win10, Ubuntu,...) and then install the wallet inside that environment.

if you want to safe in your desktop then you can download all of the wallet coins but if you only want to save in your android phone, then you can download coinomi and coin payment. I think its safe because many members here use it and I think they don't have any problem at all. beside two wallet, I think you can choose jaxx but the coins in the list not much as two wallet before. and for the coins which don't have a wallet or you can not find it, I am suggesting to save it in the exchange.

I think this is my recommendation for you and you can try it. I think its not complicated because what we need is only download the software and install and then we can start to move our coins into the wallet.

Now to those of you who keep coins in wallets, how do you make sure the wallet you download is safe etc?  For example, there are tons of coins out there.  So say you own like 10 different altcoins.  You have 10 different wallets on your computer etc?  The other thing is... every altcoin ... let just say in the top 100... they all have wallets that you download specifically for their coin right?  The other thing is wouldn't it be complicated since i assume many wallets can be complicated?  For example with bitcoin, many ppl use electrum.  But for an average computer user, electrum is not exactly that simple to use etc.  But let say im looking at coins like this

lisk
bytecoin
bitshares
steem
stellar lumens
ark
dogecoin
byteball
nexus
emercoin

So let say i want to buy all of these coins.  So i need to download each wallet for each coin right?  Now does anyone know if certain wallets are lot complicated to use than others?  is there a 12 word phrase like in electrum etc?

But if you get those coins in an exchange like bittrex, i assume no wallet is necessary?  But arent there ppl who trade on bittrex but certain coins they cannot get on bittrex?  Then what do they do there then?
