As you may have heard. Taro Protocol was recently released to Bitcoin Testnet. This protocol will allow for alt-coins on BTC blockchain as well as Lightning. It will also allow for NFTs that don't take tons of space like ordinals.

Here is a wallet for this protocol here
https://testnet.tarowallet.net/

If you are already running a taro node / tarod you can use it to test your node. If you just want to play and learn you can mint your own Taro Assets as well as send them and deposit them.

There are multiple alt coin and NFT faucets available as well:
https://testnet.tarowallet.net/walletapp/faucet/?currency=4
https://testnet.tarowallet.net/walletapp/faucet/?currency=nft

Here is the Tarod repo for those that want to contribute to the project:
https://github.com/lightninglabs/taro
It is now being developed by Lightning labs.

Oh noes, please stay away from Bitcoin with this shitcoin/NFT mumbo-jumbo! Ethereum is a perfect blockchain for such a purpose, don't you think so? What are the advantages of using Taro for the common Bitcoin users apart from ability to send scam images with pseudo value back and forth?  Grin

You don't have to use it. If it is going to do anything it will be that it makes your Bitcoins more valuable.

I visited the page, but greeted with very long error message with start with "DoesNotExist at /walletapp/faucet/" and ends with "You’re seeing this error because you have DEBUG = True in your Django settings file. Change that to False, and Django will display a standard page generated by the handler for this status code.".

You're being rude. You don't even realize if more people use RGB/Taro rather than Ordinal, there'll be less bloat on Bitcoin blockchain.

As for the error: Yes I am sorry, I had to switch the testnet currencies that I am offering. I had to nuke the entire DB and tarod files as my taro node crashed.

Thanks - yes I will change DEBUG = False.

There are some grammar mistakes on your wallet site, e.g. Taro "fausets" "facets". Were you in a rush to release this?

As for the grammar errors, etc - thank you for pointing that out to me. Yes I was kind of in the rush as I want everything to be ready by the time Taro hits main net. I am originally from Europe and English is not my first language.

I will fix the errors.

Also I do not think this will ever make too much money as the level of activity on Lightning is still limited.

How can I make a NFT out of my avatar?

Hi,

As for making NFTs - just click on Mint assets after logging into the wallet and then select NFT.

This will create an asset on Taro with image as a part of the metadata.

Thanks for pointing me to the thread.

Taro was active for a few weeks. I think over the past 1 month it really become useful with now errors.

Yes LL like to make tuns of press releases, I kind of like it though as they seem to be building a solid community around it.

As for RGB, I have heard about the protocol. I last checked their progress about 6 months ago. Will have to leek what progress they made.

not your keys, not your coins!
We've had a thread about it since last year.

But it's good to know it was released on Testnet. I had the impression that it was active already, to be honest.
The alternative / 'original' actually (RGB) is active on Testnet for a long time now, just want to mention it since LL likes to make a big fuss about their stuff, when something very similar already exists (like with LND and CLN).

It is now being developed by Lightning labs.
Was it developed by someone else before?
