I watch and observe my favorite coins' price in US dollars, so that I can easily know how much is the conversion of the coins I have in my local currency. Because if I watch it in terms of bitcoin, I will have a long calculation, unlike if it is in dollars.

People who keep tracking their investments in USD instead of BTC are the dumb ones.

you are watching your favorite altcoin price in btc terms or in usd terms and why?

It is like a fiction price, because you invested that money on Bitcoin.

Just take a look at this:

You bought 1 ethereum at $300 (0.10 bitcoins when btc was $3000)
You sold 1 ethereum at $500 (0.05 bitcoins, because bitcoin was $10000)

In which situation you really would make a lot of profit?

Of course that in the "2"; if you just were a little bit more clever, you could hold that bitcoin and have right now $1000 because bitcoin doubled it's value.

It is just an example.

Since I am a bitcoin and altcoins traders and most of the exchangers platforms do display the list of there coins in terms of Btc. I do get confused especially when I started to trade as I will look at a cpin performance in terms of dollars and see it doing well and after changing to bitcoin at hittps://coinmarketcap.com.  I will see the same coin performance poorly because of bitcoin increasing. However, those that trading with USD and cryptocurrencies you have to always view your assets in terms of USD.

Mostly in USD terms because at end we all want fiat to withdraw rather than bitcoin, but when alts will be dumping during bitcoin pump I try to buy altcoins directly with bitcoin to increase my total bitcoins.

For the most part in btc terms as I am trying to trade them to grow my btc, for some I look at in USD, those are usually the ones that I invested in at ICO and have held since. They are separate investments to my daily trading.

bitcoin is more like the unit of measurement for altcoin values. they are called alternative to bitcoin after all not alternative to fiat! and it makes them be weighed in terms of bitcoin, so it makes comparing all of them together much easier. if you say some altcoin is worth X dollar then you can not  compare it with those that are worth 0.001BTC for example.

additionally most of us are accumulating more bitcoin. and that means we both watch the price in BTC, trade it in BTC and care about it in BTC.

I think watching it in terms of bitcoins makes perfect sense because not only you can see how your altcoin goes, you can also have the idea of what is going on with bitcoin and the comparison within your altcoin and bitcoin.

I am always watch in BTC terms because I would like very much in Bitcoin and also this is the best way to analyse the other altcoin ratio in market. But USD terms is not useful for the exact report in our altcoin. So I will support in BTC terms and many sites is determine easy in Bitcoin terms. This will easy to handle in any place in all over the world.

obviously in bitcoin terms because i am a bitcoin hodler Wink
when i trade with bitcoin and have everything in bitcoin terms i am making more profit on my bitcoins so after a while i will be hodling even more bitcoins.

imagine you have 1BTC and make 10% profit so you have 0.1BTC profit. bitcoin goes from 10K to 20K and your 0.1BTC goes from $1000 to $2000.
meanwhile if you invested 10K and got 10% profit you will have $1000. and when bitcoin goes from 10k to 20k you still have $1000.

It think they should be calculated only in BTC because most of the exchanges show their value in BTC only.

It will be easy to do so.

I do run my trades in BTC against ETH, because I don't really care on winnings over usd but on getting more bitcoins at long term.

I track the price of my altcoin portfolio in BTC. Then I care about BTC/USD pair in order to identify when to convert BTC to fiat with best rate possible.

However, I am testing a few assumptions in my trading workflow that are based on dollar price of a coin because I think majority of people make trading decision based on dollar value.

Bitcoin value because the dollar was nothing compared to the bitcoin, if your altcoin lost a lot in bitcoin and that will be the same as the dollar value. in crypto the bitcoin pairs is everything.

if you believe in crypto then only watch in btc. Your altcoin might be worth more in usd and you sell at a negative loss in satoshi because of bitcoins current price. Always stack the satoshis!

Personally, I watch altcoin's prices in Bitcoins and then BTC to USD Reasons are :
Agree that bitcoin is the medium of exchanges of Cryptocoins. As the medium of exchange it is easier to determine its value. Like BTC to Fiat money, many are tracking currencies in USD, because it's a global currency and watching it from a single view determines which has the potential.
