I think it highly depends on the risk you are willing to take.
New coins always have a potential for profit, but it would have to be a solid project.
Someone who wants to either solve a real problem, or provide a service that is better than the competition.
I am thinking of getting back into investing on crypto, but ill be taking slow steps, as its no longer as easy as it used to be.

As you have rightly said, ETH and BNB are not bad for investing. Similarly, any other coins that have been able to maintain the first 20 positions for months os also kinda good such as litecoin, XRP, BCH BSV and the likes.
When it comes to investing in the bitcoin forks you need to be very careful, especially if you want to invest in BSV, it is true it gave good profits some weeks ago but those movements are not real, BSV is probably the coin that is the most manipulated of those that are in the top 20 and when it begins to crash, and it will crash, you can be sure that it is going to be spectacular and when that happens you want to be as far as you can be from that coin to not suffer those consequences. 
I also saw that in early 2020 the performance of altcoins was getting better, maybe following the rising bitcoin prices.

but, to target a very large profit, you should hold ETH coins, and BNB. however, there are a lot of good coins out there, moreover, coins that occupy positions 20 and above. but, taking into account the development of the current coin, Ethereum has greater potential than the others. 
They are good coin YES but they are not the only ones on the market that have high potential you just need to do your research and find a good coin you can invest in Mostly that will again be on your preferences short or long time goal is important in choosing a good coin

Just to be sure pick the altcoins that is on top 100 on coinmarketcap cause they cant be on cmc if they didnt prove anything that they are one of the best altcoin. Dont pick altcoins or projects that is unknown.
a lot of new altcoins and there are some that are worth buying, Ferrum and Harmony the best projects last year, in my opinion, this year seems to be havent, because IEO in large exchanges is still not being held, I only heard from Binance that they would launch IEO, but when I don't know yet

Go for short term and i would suggest on picking top alts in the market which do have sufficient volume for you to play.BNB and ETH are pretty good imho

Most of the Altcoins are underperforming for almost two years now. I will just suggest that any Altcoins in the top 10 is a good just, but all are just speculating. I am doubting if the Altcoin season will still occur as it is used to be before.
It will occur but we need either one of two different scenarios, we need that bitcoin begins a bull run and despite the growth that we are seeing this is not a bull run yet and until then altcoins cannot go up in value as fast as bitcoin, the second scenario is that bitcoin remains stable for a long time, that way people will lose interest in bitcoin and they will decide to take their chances with altcoins, but as you can see that is not happening either since bitcoin is still moving very abruptly, so at this moment an altcoin season is impossible but it will surely happen in the future. 
Looking at what it means for the world and how great it is, DASH seems good if you are a whale. Think about it, having 1 dash masternode would mean that you are both rich because it is a big price to pay for having something like that but also you are getting money all the time and if you just reinvested that you will have 2 DASH masternodes in few years as well.
It is a marvelous coin honestly and not just because of the masternode thing but also because its a coin that people love and between privacy and other stuff the coin is basically promoting itself. I can't find any other coin that is financially so sound but at the same time so much loved by the community as well, maybe BNB could be as well since it is loved by traders but I prefer a coin that is loved because what it is and not what it is used for.

Both coins I can say have a very good potential, I think those 2 coins are really good for investments not just for today but for a long term investment as well specially the Binance is opening a legal market in the US which I think might increase the number of investor to BNB however not just this only coins have a potential for a good profit as well as Ethereum Classic and Litecoin as well or probably Ripple (Just my opinion)

Ethereum for sure, (actually not 100% sure) is what i pick. Because with last halving can bring ETH to new peak, maybe this halving can do same thing too. Ferrum Network (FRM) how much success i don't know that but i agree this is potential project in last year. Specially it's launched Kudi Exchange product,so investors trust the liquidity. BitMax exchange impact in the project IEO, FRM token value can't satisfactory for the investors. It's looks like the current price investors could not benefited.
You have missed to invest in BSV, it was increased 300% now, but no worries Ethereum and Binance coin are also potential altcoins, good for long term investment and I agree with you many investors investing in Binance coin, I believe we can see Binance coin mooning this year.
For missed BSV investment, there is no need to be disappointed because ur money is safe zone for not invest such as shit coin. I am decided to invest in BNB coin & how many days i hold it's depending on Binance IEO projects.

I would say that it is better to invest in Ethereum and Ripple as of now. These coins are the top performing coins for me since it is continuosly growing plus the fact that it is the one of the most coins that is on the market's rank list. Meaning, they are the one trusted by so many investors. It will continuously to grow this 2020 for sure because they might be affected on the halving that is about to happen.
