Once the ICO didn't met the soft-cap they will eventually end this since they won't have a fund to continue on the project. Some really burn their coins then return the money to investors. Some continue but this is bad because the coin will no longer have a value. In worst cases, if you encounter a scam they will just run with the money.

There is a good conscience ICO that return money to investors, but many simply become useless and you lose everything.

It depends on the working team who is behind any ICO, if they are genuine and they not meet their target then they give full refund to their investors.

Today, many projects are unsuccessful, because they just lost very much in price. I think that the situation will soon change, I very much hope this, because many people are waiting for this event.

If the ICO company is genuine then they burn all their coins and give full refund to their investors but if developer is not good then he live the coin in limbo  and then coin will have no value in future.

Given that the project is unsuccessful, they have no choice but to burn their tokens. Or sometimes, they keep it and make theit ICO better in time. They develop it more and they come back at a later time to try once more.

if the project was unsuccesfull the token willbe burned and all contribution will be refunded, there's many case like this that ICO didn't reach softcap and the team decide to stop the project, but there some who still continue and want to start over with a developed product.

You don't know ? When ICO failed to collect enough funds, they usually refund back the ETH you used for the tokens you bought.
Therefore, the investors still guaranteed. but the worst thing is, the ICO reaching softcap, but it doesn't go well in the future.
You won't get any profit from undevelop ICO.

mostly if ICO project is not gaining what they aim to be , a legit ICO company are usually opted to return the money of the investors , fees are also deducted by some company but it happen due an agreement. ICO's usually burn their unsuccessful token to maintain the number of coins in the market.

The go to the heaven of the tokens, where many new blockchains offer them a place in their blocks where the can be happily hodl by token-angels and no investor goes to claim in court.

They will be delisted from exchanges and the investors and holders will face losses, that is why it is very important to invest only in quality projects, due diligence is very important before you put your money in any project.

The ones I know and seen; all they did was to refund the people's money those that invested in the ICO. Although, some of them have been so bad taking people's money away to never talk about them or refunding their money. Hence, the most common thing people do is to refund people's investment.

If the source code is open source than mostly some new dev might fork it and continue the project or the old devs might hand over the repo keys to the new devs. But if the ICO creators exit scam, than you are out of luck and can expect the price to hit the floor soon.

Well, Sometimes the company just burn the token, for those who buy in the ICO, if the company is really legit, They are sending back the money of the people who invested in them. There are also cases that the token stays but of course they token will became shitcoin because they don't have any value.

Exactly, so better to make a lot of study before you join any ICO because not all ICO succeed.
If you're lucky enough your money will be back but the worst thing is, it became scam and a useless one.

Now some teams just add 2-4 weeks to the ICO campaigns in order to gather a soft cap or hard cap. Some new bounty managers are leading the campaigns not very wisely with strange politics and rules, therefore the projects might not to get even a soft cap, although its technology or economics is good and lucrative. In the most of cases the tokens are not being burnt.

You have to read the rules, because it says they will return the money to investors, but in many cases they will deduct an admin fee so you will get less back than you invested. This isn't a bad thing, the team could pack up and go taking your coins with them pulling an exit scam! That is why a sold out pre-sale means it is likely to go ahead, and coins are cheaper at the beginning.

I think they will try to give back your investment on that not sure if you invest in something definitely make sure and made research about that and take a good decision before investing it is the right move to make profits.
