11.12 fixed my CPU bug. Smiley  The flip side is I'm down like 20 Mhash/sec, unless those numbers were being incorrectly reported to begin with, but I'm happy that my CPU isn't in overdrive

edit, my Crossfire got enabled automatically when it installed 11.12 Sad   I discovered this because Skyrim started playing really funky, and I remembered people talking about funky behavior with Crossfire.  So I disabled Crossfire, and my Mhash/sec came up a little bit (although it seemed about par w/out Crossfire, so maybe that's fixed now?  someone might do some more experimenting)

and the CPU bug is still fixed for me. Smiley

I tried updating to 11.12 on one of my quad radeon hd 5870 windows rigs and it did not fix the 100% cpu bug.

The AMD Catalyst™ 12.1 Preview includes all of the features found in AMD Catalyst™ 11.12 and also includes all of the latest optimizations found in the AMD Catalyst 11.11c performance drivers (AMD Catalyst 11.12 does not include the latest 11.11c optimizations).   It is highly recommended that all gamers use the AMD Catalyst 12.1 Preview driver.

win7 64 bit 5850+4850 100%cpu just like before.
Yes, sadly, no solution for windows, seems to be fixed for linux though.
Catalyst 11.6 works for me on Weendoze XP 32 bit. I get better hash rates and lower temperatures with no 100% pinned CPU core, nor one core's worth of load spread out 50% per core over 2 cores. I saw the latter behavior with some post-11.6 driver version, I don't recall which one.

Hi!

Not starting from upstart. I'm using CLI.

BTW, to avoid issues with starting it from upstart, just add in front of cgminer wraper script the var "DISPLAY=:0 cgminer -o http:dasdasdas...."

Best!
Thiago
I am not using the var DISPLAY=:0 inline.  But isn't the following equivalent?
Code:
export DISPLAY=:0
exec gnome-terminal --command="./cgminer -o $MINERPOOL1:$MINERPORT1 -u $MINERUSER1 -p $MINERPASS1 \
                                        ...
I actually tried inserting an additional DISPLAY=:0 prior to the "exec gnome-terminal...", but I saw the cpu use max out when restarting with upstart.

Using the code above I get about 4% cpu usage, but when started by upstart: 200%

Anyway don't want to waste your time on my issue, the only other thing I thought could be a problem is if the export values for SDK 2.4 are pointed to the correct location, but that would be a long shot.  Something to verify.

Ubuntu 11.10 64bits
Catalys 11.11
CGMiner 2.0.8 = 150% CPU consumption.

Falling back to Ubuntu 11.04 - Catalyst 11.6 - SDK v2.4 - CGMiner 2.0.6.

Best,
Thiago

Guys, still no luck here... My CGMiner 2.0.8 running at Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits with Catalyst 11.11 consumes all of my CPU, all the 4 cores.

How do you guys are doing to use CGMiner 2.0.8 at Ubuntu 11.10?!

Thanks!
Thiago
I had this problem when auto starting cgminer from upstart. If it is the same issue you are seeing, try running cgminer interactively from a terminal, otherwise, idk. At least that would be a place to start.

Completely fixed under linux (ubuntu natty) with 4 x 5870 for me now
After upgrading to catalyst 11.11, I did the distro upgrade to oneiric 11.10.  It works fine. FYI.

Curious about windows.

Win 7 x64
2x5830
11.11

No dice.  100% cpu still here.
It would have been nice. Cry

Tell me about it...thinking about just switching over to a linux install and throwing cgminer on there.
Just noticed a problem with the startup module.  When I put the script to start cgminer to start at login(via the gui), some of the cpu cores gets pegged (125% cpu), however, simply starting the script in a terminal yields normal type cpu use.

I am fairly new in linux, but really happy with it, haven't used unix since college, what a change from SunOS. Cool

If your bios supports the pop up boot from menu, it is much easier to try out(provided you have a hard drive to install linux on). No dual boot issues, just bring up the bios menu and boot from any drive.--even usb drives.

Yeah, I followed the guide to get cgminer + xubuntu on a USB...but I failed and used a 2GB with 1 GB persistence; thinking it would be enough space.

Sadly mistaken.  Just gives me a good reason to go out and buy a 4 or 8GB Cheesy
