I have some hope they will in the future. GPGPU is starting to catch on and NVidia subpar integer performance is a flaw in their design.  As GPGPU becomes more mainstream (especially in enterprise space) NVidia will need to improve integer performance or risk losing GPGPU marketshare.

It takes then 2 version (6 months)

6 months?
11.5 = May 2011
11.6 = June 2011
11.7 = July 2011
11.9 = September 2011

Ok sorry 4 months.  Is that better?  I mean AMD has a broken driver for what feels like forever.  The problem isn't subtle.  The 100% CPU bug affect AMD own examples in their SDK.

I mean it is impossible not to replicate it.
1) Install 2+ GPU
2) Run AMD own example.
3) Verify 100% CPU bug.

Despite that AMD doesn't fix it and then breaks it further so it ALSO affects single GPU.  They finally fix that 4 months later and the fix is limited to single GPU only. AMD can't even confirm if they are working on a fix or that they have verified a problem exists.

Well that is exactly the reason I always buy Nvidia graphics. ATI = crap drivers for ever left unfixed. Too bad Nvidia cannot recognize our movement and come out with the appropriate solution Sad

Sad AMD can't fix their problems.

The multi-GPU 100% CPU bug has been around since dawn of mankind (actually I think it is v11.5?).

Then rather than fix it AMD ignores it for a half dozen versions and then somehow caused single GPU to ALSO get the 100% bug in Catalyst 11.7.
It takes then 2 version (6 months) and they fix it for single GPU and keep the bug for multi-GPUs.  This despite their being an open bug report in AMD forums for over a year.

Not only that people researched the pre-release version of 11.9 driver and CONFIRMED it fixed the 100% bug on single GPU but the bug remained on multiple GPU.  AMD answer is they don't do hotfixes and it may be included in the next driver version.

If Nvidia didn't suck at hashing I would drop AMD forever and never look back (and this is coming from a long time "AMD fanboy" in my younger years).

Nothing helps for me. One core of CPU 100% instantly. Reduction in agression (from 12 to 9) results in reduction of perfomance, I get  5 MH/s less and Afterburner shows 97% of GPU usage.
Do you have more than 1 GPU?

11.9 only fixes 100% CPU bug with 1 GPU.  Note that is 1 GPU not 1 card so even single cards with 2 GPU (like 6990 and 5970) will have the 100% CPU bug.

It is interesting (weird) that there is a non linear relationship between intensity and cpu usage.

My understanding (and it may be incorrect) is higher intensity simply instructs the GPU to hash for longer interval (technically complete more hashes) before returning results.

Why that would suddenly cause a spike in CPU usage above intensity 9 I can't explain.

cgminer 2.0.5:
cpu below 1% for intensity 9
cpu at 30-40% for intensity 10

This is with a Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and one 6870 card running under Win 7 64Bit

It doesn't fix 100% CPU bug for multiple GPU.  If you have a single GPU it fixes the 100% bug then again AMD created that bug in 11.7.

The 100% CPU w/ multiple GPU which has been around for 2.5 years now still hasn't been fixed by AMD despite it being an outstanding issue, reported on their forum, and updated with every single driver release.

11.9 release is out and 11.10 preview is out too. 11.9 release fixes cpu bug on single gpu but only on low aggression. Anything higher than 10 aggression and I start getting significant cpu (11 = 40%, 12 = 80%, 13+ = 100%)

+1. aggression=10 seems to be a magic number.

For people who claimed it uses 0% CPU, report your aggresion number

Is it possible at all to get multi gpu mining working with no cpu bug with sdk >=2.4? on windows that is.

No.

Just curious, I am using Asus will the AMD Catalyst work for my GPU?

Really?

AMD drivers work for all AMD GPU regardless of which brand.

Tried it on linux. CPU usage still sucks balls even with only one GPU. Back to 11.6...

11.9 has no CPU usage on 2.5 SDK with one GPU

now multiple GPUs I didn't test because I don't feel like it
