The value of a high stake reward is dependent on the future view of the holder. If the holder has a future view that the stake will be worth a lot, he will hold and not sell or potentially even buy more. If the future view is that the price will be low, he will sell before it goes that low.
The future view is dependent on the value added by the dev team based on their plans and roadmaps.

I think it is more a case of holders seeing their holdings as a cash cow. Holders hope that their growing holdings will find an expanded market to provide the buy support. The challenge for the dev team is to find that market, failure of which will cause mass selloffs.
