the last time i checked this was cryptoland and the foundation of it is no KYC so why would anyone give out their phone number to people they have no idea of what they will do with it?

I will also try it. But they are right there are a lot of countries where you can easily get new phone numbers. For example in Romania every new company that comes starts giving new, free sim cards. And sometimes the other companies do some campaigns where they offer you free prepaid sim cards.

As someone associated with UCash - I would say to absolutely take full advantage of this airdrop. UCash is one of the very few cryptos out there who have a working product ready along with whitepaper.

just asking why do we need to input our phone number? It kinda turns me off because I don't like to use my personal number for an ICO that is just starting (having trust issues due to past incidents). The email verification should be enough.
Great question, unfortunately its the only way to stop people from gaming the system, we removed that feature and three 12 year old kids managed to open >700 accounts. People can open tons of email accounts unfortunately, but getting a new phone number is hard.

Well if you want to take the effort to get a new phone number, and create a new email, and register again and again, then good for you . But it's been a good deterrent for now.
