I think this coin may have forked. Out of the four peers I have, two are at height 5580, the other two are at 5583.
Either way, there's only been a handful of blocks that have been found over the past month. The network is not moving properly.

As per above, the client will complain it is out of sync when a block has not been found for some time.
The last block was found 7 days ago.

The coin is constantly going out of sync because of the difficulty retargeting algo. You really should get someone to fix it with a per-block retarget so the difficulty is not changing so wildly every 2 blocks. This is not a problem that will just go away.

Example: if you mince and stay two hours only and leave the difficulty high and leave ... surely the wallet will run out of sync waiting for the next block ....

Yes, and these issues were mostly solved 3 or 4 years ago with newer per-block retarget algorithms. Your coin has obsolete algorithms which are still susceptible to 'diff shock'
