To make sure I fully understand this, when you contribute, the fund-raising entity gets the money. If the goal is not reached, is there any support for refunds?

I understand the desire to make a Kickstarter style system, and this is a really nice start. The next step is to upgrade the core Bitcoin software so true assurance contracts become possible - I should be able to "chip in" funds that are not taken from my wallet until the goal is reached. The protocol for this is described here:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Contracts#Example_3:_Assurance_contracts

It can be combined with multi-signature outputs to produce dispute-mediated fundraisers.

The programming is a little tricky, but I'd feel much safer chipping in to something where the money would only be taken from my wallet on successful completion of the goal.

I tried again with a different address, leaving the currency selection at the default value of 'BTC', and again it puts two different BTC amounts - the true one, and "0 BTC" under it:

Also, is there any way to modify an existing widget, if I wanted to switch the target, or the end date or currency say?  It won't let me make a 2nd widget for the same address.

I enabled Javascript, reloaded the page, and created a widget.

It says "raised so far: 2.43 BTC (0 BTC)" - surely some mistake?

Some clue as to what format you want the end date field would be useful.

I guessed, and got to a page that says:
  {"msg":" The following fields are invalid: date"}

Does it want mm/dd/yy?  dd/mm/yy/  ddmmyy?

I tried "111212", "3rd Dec 2012", "3/12/12" (which got me to a page saying just "{"id":80}"), "12/'12/12", "3/12/12" again (which got me: '{"msg":"Widget for this Bitcoin address already generated"}', so I guess the id:80 message was a success message...

[later] Ah, it turns out I have to have javascript enabled - then clicking the date field pops up a calendar.  It would be useful if the site told me it needed javascript to work properly.

Also, clicking the "create a free widget" link at the top of the page seems to do nothing but take me back to the page I'm already on.

That is an old site! wow Tongue  http://www.bitcoinstarter.com  is it ... and good job with bitcoinchipin!

If you have any ideas on how we can work together,  I am happy to cooperate.

Hello! Why of course ...just got to think how. Let me brainstorm a little bit and see how we integrate this into our system as we have our own system but obviously the more exposure to projects the better. I'll PM you or respond here  Grin

Also, consider adding the tag line "Avoid PayPal fees!" as PayPal Business and Premier accounts are charged fees for regular Chipin as well as debit/credit card use, sending from outside U.S. etc.

This can go a looooong way toward expanding Bitcoin awareness  Grin

Well, that's another idea I had that I now have to cross off of my list (at least I know I have my finger on the pulse of the market). Seriously, though, I'm glad you built this instead of me, because even the version in my head looked really poorly compared to your slick widget. Best wishes.

One recommendation: Instead of "Title of Widget" (which at first I thought just meant you had neglected to finish the site design), maybe something like "Your Name Here" to make it more personal to the prospective user.

For those of us using previously existing addresses could we perhaps also have the option to display the balance rather than the sum of all donations? I generated a sample widget for an address I played a little SatoshiDice with and holy cow it thinks I've got a lot of money there  Grin

Does this site, hold on to the btcs then when the goal or time is up, it releases or does it just give the address and count the amount from a certain time?

No. It doesn't hold any bitcoin, so trust is not required. It only track addresses for you.

I made a widget already, but I am not showing it yet. First, I need to get out a bitcoin related extension for chrome, then I can start raising money. Need to pay rent.
