I think I will buy 3.

BTW btc is up to 618 usd.

Now since I purchased 2.25 btc at 560 usd specifically to buy these.

Should:

 I tell myself they cost  me  .75 x 560 usd = 420

Or should I tell myself they cost me .75 x 618 = 463.50

Hey   s1gs3gv

how should I do cost basis?
S3 should make roughly .019 btc a day if that helps....

Are you referring 0.019 to a single s3 or all 3 ?

Neither, you'll never mine that 2.25 BTC back.  Doesn't matter if you mine the fiat value back, you're losing coins.

OMG, 0.75 BTC ... how can you ever ROI with that price?
https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

Because difficulty won't stabilize at 20% it will spike and then drop, then when the next big hardware changes happens, spike and then drop, but each spike will be lower than the previous ones and each drop will be deeper than the previous ones.

Look at the difficulty history at the bottom of that page.

I'm not saying its going to make zillions but there is a pretty good chance, going by past difficulty history that it will better than just sticking 20% into a calculator.

Not sure what you all are so excited about. Assuming you pay $0.1 per kwh the antminer s3 will only make 0.5669 BTC before it becomes obsolete (~160 days).  This assumes an average increase of 20% in difficulty.

It's been said a million times that basically mining is a bet against difficulty increase.  From a strictly profit PoV the risk outweighs the possible rewards by several magnitudes.  It amazes me soooooooo many people are willing to take such a lopsided gamble but am sort of glad they do as it all contributes to the network!

I'm not jumping on this at .75 BTC, esp. if it doesn't ship until July 10-20

FYI i sell some terrific PCIe leads and splitters in my sig link if anyone is looking.

24" 16AWG leads - 1 male PCIe plug and the other end is stripped wire tails (ideal for use modifying server power supplies)
6"  18AWG (x2) MFM PCIe Y-Splitters - Ideal for antminer S1 and S3 units if you dont have enough PCIe connectors on your PSU. This is a quality, 6-wire 18awg splitter capable of handling a lot more current than some of the flimsy gear found on ebay which often uses 20awg wire at best

*tip: if the S3 can be powered by a single PCIe per blade its usually better to do it that way - adding a splitter would only cause more wire resistivity and the PCB should certainly have thick copper traces that make using a single plug okay.
