The team is active but small, new contributors are always welcome. They just released a new client (More) with a few updates and they are experimenting with PoS on the testnet. Although the community communication doesn't happen on bitcointalk much anymore, they are active on gitter, discord, reddit. Twitter account is active and posts updates frequently.

Good to hear. It still would be good though to keep the Bitcointalk community updated, I don't see a reason why not to, it's always good to have as much exposure as possible.
I am sure that if something big is happening someone will post it here too, however the first place when it's announced would be Twitter and Reddit.
On a side-note: Blackcoin is still a community coin. There is no company behind it, it's a project done by people voluntarily in their freetime out of interest. So it's up to the community how big a thing is and what people make out of it. And no one can decide single hand what people want to do with blackcoin.
That makes PR more difficult but also the coin more free and decentralized.
