Introduction to Bright and the ICO Landscape
Bright is building financial services on the blockchain to solve the problem faced by many small businesses in accessing credit. We have spent the last 18 months building Bright Network, the technology that underpins our ability to perform small business lending and credit analysis on the blockchain. Bright is built on a decentralised, open protocol, and as a result we are using token economics (henceforth called tokenomics) to create a robust, healthy marketplace and system of incentives to promote the adoption and growth of the network. A natural curiosity and a positive attitude to change led Alicia from South Africa to England to pursue a career in education. However, Alicia’s keen interest in problem-solving and the development of practical innovations eventually drew her to Bright as Head of MSME Engagement.

Very good question Ohgreatanotherone! Bright is developing Bright Network to be smart contract platform agnostic, however their choice of platform at this time is Ethereum.
Ethereum has been chosen as an initial solution due to its maturity across multiple dimensions; technology, governance, user experience and developer productivity. It is the smart contract platform with the most active community, the most users and user experience focused projects, the largest knowledge base, and has proven its resilience and thought leadership in times of duress.
Finally regarding scalability, although Ethereum has been challenged in terms of reaching the transaction throughput required for mainstream adoption, Bright will strategically employ scaling approaches where necessary, such as side-chains. They will also benefit from platform-wide scaling projects like sharding as they develop.
The team is monitoring the smart contract platform landscape as other competitor platforms mature, and will evaluate whether such projects reach the maturity and value alignment required by Bright in the future.
