And...we're coming back to Earth.

Unfortunately, my usual lease providers were not available for an 'instant startup' to pop our high blocks faster, so the job was left to Blaksmith and wolverine and their 100 MH/s machines.  I only have ~48MH/s of my own at the moment, and have to manage them carefully as it's 101°F outside and 105° in the garage.

The moral of this story?  Community miners are much better than leases.  Our coin code does work - but we can't manufacture blocks out of thin air.  More network hashing minimizes high diff rises and gets us back down more quickly.  Nothing new there at all.  Again - we're in restart/relaunch status, but we're stronger and more stable than we have ever been.

Thanks Cats!

Just a quick update and some random thoughts.

- Coinwarz updated to V9.2.0 some time back.  They updated our status yesterday (that Cryptsy is back) and CAT is again moving around on the profitability list.

- Crypto-Currency Market Capitalizations has us updated http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/catcoin/#markets

- Prohashing has CAT activated on their pool - and we're in 'payout' status only.  This is something we've thought about since just after the launch - having a mining pool that allows mining for anything but pays in CAT.   Cool  Cool as hell, Prohashing - thanks for this!  https://prohashing.com/charts.html

- There is at least one pool in the ecosystem that commands a very significant amount of hash.  We were fine with our relatively low 24/7 hash and a 23x increase, but this was a very large hash input.  I don't think CAT has ever seen that much hash power since the coin was launched!

- As everyone knows, the difficulty must rise fast in response to more hash.  In the past, we've 'given' out plenty of 'almost free' CAT blocks and profit switch algos adjusted over time to switching to CAT when our difficulty dropped below 20.  We expect this new algo and the lack of 'freebies' will lead to more adjustments in pool code.  That should result in a reduction in the severe hits that have been our norm for far too long.

- Right now we are essentially in a relaunch status for CAT.  The difficulty system appears to be working as designed but it'll take a bit more time to know for sure.  We know we still need 24/7 miners, though.  That'll come in time.  Our price is starting to lift off the floor on Cryptsy, and we're off the floor on Coinwarz - nothing wrong with either of those!

- We have another lease on the way to assist in popping the next couple of blocks.  Until it arrives, I have everything that can mine scrypt on the network and invite all other cats to do the same.

Blak and Wolverine have popped the hard blocks - with a peak of 2676 and a share size of >175.4 million.  CAT has climbed up into a redwood and is on her way down.

Overall, we're going in the right direction - and that's a good thing!

Andy

what a massive drop in price  Shocked

I'm suspecting that the drop is because Cryptsy took so damn long to sync to the official.  It is going to take people trading back and forth to bring the price back up.

On a side note, we got hit SUPER hard this morning, and left us with a sky-high diff.  I personally have not found which pool / whoever that slammed the coin so hard, but we will be able to pop this block if we all start hashing steadily!

A huge THANK YOU to all the folks that opened tickets, sent email, and made sure Cryptsy understood that CAT still has claws!

I know, right?!  This miner loves to see miners on CAT - thanks Wolverine!

I can't tell you how disappointed I am about how long this is taking.  I worked with Cryptsy for the past three code updates and the others were complete in under 3 weeks.   Huh  I've got 10 CAT stuck on the way to Cryptsy and 5,658.74317291 that I bought and want off the exchange.   Cry

I've been sitting back quietly, watching and making sure the code is running as expected, and not waste my time with all the FUD slinging that has been going on.

Here's a little recap:

We released 0.9.2.0, without the 30 second manditory reject code, because it is unethical.
I personally goofed, as I removed that code that should have stayed in there until after the fork block.  That has caused the major fork between 0.9.1.1 and 0.9.2 "before" the fork block.  This was unintentional, but since code was already alive, and lots of people upgraded at that point, there was no turning back, so we had to just continue with it.

During this time, there was a TON of FUD being thrown from Hozer, and his alts, and anyone who jumped on his band wagon.
I personally am not going to pin-point who's alt is whos, but there has been digging done by BitcoinTalk staff to show that some of the alts that SlimePuppy listed, ARE Hozers.  All of the known alts have been posting from the same IP address.  The BitcoinTalk staff even listed some others that did not raise red flags for us, as his alts.

Regarding the moderated thread, it is what it is.
If you are going to try and spread FUD, especially if you are "claiming" that you are "new to any coin", and then come out with some very highly detailed stuff about exploits, and how to implement them, and promote the use of them, even though 99.999% of all the exploits said are all false, then you can expect your post to be removed.  This thread is about getting the REAL community back together, since CAT has had such a VERY rough life since it's beginning.  Also, promoting the use of ANY catcoin that is NOT directly off of the OFFICIAL release, your posts will be removed also!

Since the fork block of 46331:

The 2 new algos with the semi-random picking of which algo is used to solve the next block, is working AWESOME!  We have been hit many times by at least 2 known switch-pools, and the hardest hitting was with a combined hash rate of over 4GH, and there were NO insta-mine blocks, even without the 30 minimum kludge.  Granted, it raised the diff after about 20 min of the switch-pool staying on, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than the old 9.1.1 code of just PID.

Shortly after we hit the fork block, I did a test, and removed the lease that I had control of, to see how it would do.  It didn't do too bad, but still the low hashing gave the switch-pools enough power to raise the diff a bit, but still did fairly well.  It took longer for it to come down, because there was maybe 50MH on the coin combined, to bring it down.  Since then, I have been maintaining a low 100MH lease.  This example shows that all we need is some reliable steady hashers to keep the block count running smoothly.

So, NOW is the time to get in contact with all of your friends that have mining equipment, and get some steady hashing going on!

It is probably going to take the rest of the community to get Cryptsy off their ass, and get their catcoind online, up and running, so we can start focusing on the future of CAT.  Feel free to also contact any other exchanges that you wish to have CAT listed on!  Let's get this community active in a positive way!

ALL of us as a community, can come up with tons of ways that we can use CAT.  Let's start getting those ways thought up and designed!  Let's make this CAT grow!!!!

FYI CATs - this is what it took to bring us a couple of long blocks:

(Image courtesy of ispace pools http://ispace.co.uk/coindetails/?coin=cat)

This was about 23 times more than the existing hash rate - and while the difficulty did go up, it is manageable and we didn't have "instamined" blocks - they were earned!

This type of event is moderated when we have regular hash.  That (and our coin price) will be helped when Cryptsy is back.  Have you opened a ticket at Cryptsy today?

All right CATs - we've had a steady 100 MH/s on CAT for just over 24 hours.  As you can see, block generation is good, the difficulty adjust is agile, and we have enough computer power to handle what the world sends our way.  That's all we need for a stable CAT now - a few miners with 24/7 contributions.  I've got three GAW Black Widows that crunch 15 MH/s at the machine - we need 7 miners with BWs.  The GAW Fury hashes at about 1.5 Mh/s - we need 67 Furys on the network.  Or any combination of these or other machines.  We're stronger with an assortment of smaller machines rather than a single Innosilicon A2 - we don't want any single points of failure here.

So...CATs...we have a good diff adjust algo now - finally.  We have a full network with solid nodes, proper DNS config, charts, block explorers, etc., that are controlled by the core team so that they can be quickly and easily fixed if something breaks.  Since launch, we haven't always had all of those and we've suffered when things didn't work or when people weren't available.  Mav's words from back in early 2014 still apply:

Obviously we're always looking for more talent and always open to suggestions and content from the community. We are a democracy, we want suggestions, nominations, content and ideas from everyone on how to make this coin the absolute best it can be. We have some really exciting new ideas that are being discussed as we speak, and as we flesh out the ideas a bit more, we'll bring them to the table for the community to see and vote on. We've created such a large team to diversify our talents and to make it so that no one person has too much influence on the coin. We are absolutely for this community, and want nothing but the best for our coin. Our team is very committed to honesty, integrity and transparency. Our IRC chats are logged and at some point once we get some more infrastructure in place they will be made available for everyone to see.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that we're really excited about this coin as a whole and we really hope that we are able to continue being the absolute best community of all the altcoins.

Long live Catcoin!

We know what we need now - we need CATs to re-connect with other CATs - bring ideas, bring a few miners, keep kicking Cryptsy and Bittrex, and build on the solid foundation the dev team's (finally) delivered.

Thoughts?  Plans?  Insights?  Bring them!

are you serious for this coin dev ?  Huh
Panda - I've personally been mining CAT since it launched in Dec 2013.  The rest of the Dev team has been involved since the beginning as well.  Considering the time, money, and effort put into this project, I'd have to say yes, that we are all serious.  How about you?
