I have a proposal that might help CLOAK get off the ground.
what I think CLOAK needs is more exposure. Its hard to do that when the only people aware of CLOAK are people involved in the altcoin space. What if we had the CLOAK client skim a percentage of fees from every tx and send that over to a CLOAK foundation. The CLOAK foundation would then converted CLOAK into FIAT. The fiat would then be used to pay for professional advertisement and marketing campaigns.
Its hard to run a marketing campaign on donations. Most people here are selfish and would rather keep their CLOAK then donate to a cause that would increase the value of their CLOAK.
Of course, we could run this for a bit of time then remove it, or keep it in place so that CLOAK can really reach a global target audience in perpetuity.
thoughts?
I vote no for a few reasons. Intentions are good (Cloak needs more exposure), but I think there might be backlash at the skimming of transactions behavior and could be put into negative light. Even if you are 100% transparent about the fund, where it goes, etc. it'll be twisted and turned into "the devs are stealing your money."
Second reason, is that it would always put constant sell pressure on the coin. If there is always a sell from CLOAK -> fiat to support marketing (read: DOGE) then your coin always has sell on it. It might not be very much in the grand scheme of things - a few btc here or there, but if you skim every transaction, that adds up and it'll have to either get converted or redistributed.
Third reason is, I'd like to see where the existing planned marketing after PoSA V2 goes. No need to change the marketing because it hasn't even started yet.
effective marketing will always ROI. If you spend $100 and generate $1000 in sales, then spending that initial $100 won't really have a lasting affect on the price. You can always put it up to a vote to see how the community feels about this.
There are people who hoard PoS coins and sell the fees for a profit. Would you rather have someone just sell CLOAK, cash out into FIAT and buy hookers and blow, or have someone do the same thing but invest the FIAT back into the CLOAK community in the form of advertising funds.
At someone point people need to start trusting eachother and work towards a common goal. the devs keep releasing great products but price keeps dropping because WE ARE NOT ATTRACTING NEW MONEY. BTCTALK is a giant circle jerk of the same characters chasing after the same BTC.
We need to break that trend and let everyone know what CLOAK is all about.
You can always gamble that a random wall street journal article or someone rich/famous names CLOAK and we go viral, but I wouldn't bet my .02 CLOAK on it.
To your point 1), the key word is "effective" marketing has a great ROI. Marketing just because we're not happy with the price at the moment, isn't an effective strategy, IMO.
To point 2 you're saying this as an either/or statement. There are other solutions. As in, let the team execute their marketing plan in place.
To point 3, yes. I trust the development team. You're using the price to make your point. Where was all this marketing talk when the price was > 300? > 250? > 200? But now all of a sudden, it's a serious problem. Nothing has changed, but everyone is bitching.
To statement 4, they don't want to put the cart before the horse and market until Block Escrow is in place. That's not my decision, it's theirs.
And to be clear, I agree with you. I think Cloak should be marketed. But it's not up to me when that starts. I trust those who are in control of that to make that decision.
