Added "last updated" information on every merchant:

This could be useful for discovering outdated venues that no longer accept bitcoins.

Please be aware that
Code:
payment:bitcoin
tag is outdated.

Although Coinmap considers both for backwards compatibility, please use
Code:
currency:XBT
tag instead to map your venue on OpenStreetMap.

It should work even when logged with your account. Try to remove cache/cookies.

Can you try using incognito mode?

That didn't help but, after running chrome as "guest" instead of using my account, it worked fine.

I have made some changes. Please double check again and in case you can't open the map please tell me the error you see.
Thank you.

The map is now loading on all the browsers I previously tested except for Chrome. Error (shown in both PC and Android):

It's still not working. I was using v44.18362.449.0 (EdgeHTML) and after I upgraded to v81.0.416.58 (Chromium) the site stopped working. Same results with Opera.

As for Chrome, I tried to removed my addons (Stylus and uBlock origin) as suggested, but that didn't help either. Any thoughts?  Huh

Which version of edge? The newer ones (early this year IIRC) are based on Chromium.

If it's an older one then it's probably something in chrome. If it's a newer version of edge then it might be some setting / addon that you have on chrome on both your PC & phone.

Did you try other Chromium based browsers?

Stay safe.

It's definitely better with the progress... but, I can't access the site using chrome for some reason? I tried on my PC, phone and also clearing the cache but nothing helped, just stuck in the loading page with 0% progress. It's working fine with Edge and Firefox though.

I'm using Chrome and it works "fine".

I say "fine" because I've checked the 2 places that show up at my city, and apart from both websites being down, I can 100% say one of the does not exist, becuase its located at my ex-GFs place.... (really, what are the fck odds of that??)
You can delete them or report them to OpenStreetMap contributors.

Although that is good in *theory* when siting on slow hotel wi-fi with no other option it really is not the best.
At least put up a bit of text that tells a visitor that so they (me) don't hit refresh waiting for it to load.

Seriously, I feel like I am on 1995 dial up speed where I am.

Did a bit of testing.
Yeah, you can really feel it's lack of performance on slower connections.

You might want to work on a way to load the data differently. Don't ask me what it is but there has to be a better way.
Contributors are welcome!

I've checked the website.
I can see the map after half minute I think.
I found minor bug when I tried to open the pinned point.

Initial map view:
-snip-

After click it and zoom in:
-snip-

After reload it several times:
-snip-

I think your platform is not up to date as well, because we ban bitcoin for payment in Indonesia.
So, the pinned point (merchant, atm, etc) is not accurate at the moment.
I'm sorry, I do not understand what bug you have found.
About the data, as stated before CoinMap uses OpenStreetMap data, so some contributor should update/remove points. Feel free to contribute Wink

Trying at the fringe of Wi-Fi where I can still get to something like news.google.com in several seconds I can feel and see coinmap start to crawl.

Yes, it pulls all data during the first load.
If you have an Android smartphone and you need to know bitcoin venues during your business trip you could consider to install Bitcoin Map. It uses the same data.

i added a new venue in thailand on OSM, how long does it take to show up on the app?
As displayed in the info box at the bottom of the site, the map is updated every day.

Its do loads like forever.
Yes, it was this the issue I faced last month. Please double check it and let me know if it happens again.

I believe that anything you add should first be approved by OP (or at least, that's how I remember the old CoinMap being like).
If you add your venue using OpenStreetMap you do not need to be approved. Anyway some OSM contributor/moderator could change/delete it later if it violates any rule.
If you add it using Bitcoin OnOsm, yes, you need some OSM contributor/moderator see your request and create venue for you.

edit:

if new locations have to be approved first, then please make sure to check from time to time.
for thailand for instance, i see many locations on other maps but not on the app.
maybe with a bit of help from the community, this could be updated?
If all maps use OpenStreetMap data, there would never be a problem with data synchronization.

Very slow loading for me at 1st.
I am on a business trip and wanted to see if there was anything nearby, gave up waiting and went for a walk around the hotel.
Came back a while later and it was fine.

Other pages were good.

Is it trying to pull a ton of data during the 1st load?

-Dave
Yes, it pulls all data during the first load.

i see, so it's just downloading locations. sure, then it is worth the waiting time.
It downloads all bitcoin venues at the first load of the website and this could take some time.
If any developer could improve the app feel free to have a look at the source code.

As you maybe have seen from the Github commits I have made some changes:
- added "locate me" button (instead of ask for position at every site open)
- added permalink handler, so you can get from the address bar the URL corrisponding to the position on the map you moved to
- fixed search feature, in which you can search venues and ATMs by name
- added CoinMap logo back on loading page

great improvements, i noticed the logo it looks better this way.
i will play a bit more with the map and get back to you if i have questions.

i am familiar with that procedure, i helped many real businesses to add their location on open street map and coinmap via bitcoin accepted = yes .
so i guess i will just keep going the same way as i have been doing before.
BTC atm icons - could we get something like that sorted?
i know google maps allowed your own graphics for markers on the map.
do you know if open street maps is allowing locally hosted custom map pins/markers etc?
Glad to see you are an OpenStreetMap user Smiley
As you can see by the source code LeafletJS is used for rendering pins/markers on the map. Yes, is possible to use custom icons, didn't you see different icons for Bitcoin ATMs and some venues categories?

ah now i spotted the BTC ATM symbol! alright, i would try to add some more missing ATMs in my area. the coinatmradar map would be a guide if needed...
keep it going...  Cool

Nice! I actually prefer the 1.0 version over the 2.0, just because you can choose different map styles.
Besides, I don't really see the point of using this to look for businesses that only operate online, so 2.0 doesn't offer anything special for me anyway.
I have to disagree there. The look of the map and the functionality to change the look is like a very good update for me in terms of user interface and usability. You see that venue update? That is like so much better than the version 1. The physical locations are replaced by even venues that is a huge thing for the community.
Maybe you misunderstand @eternalgloom's post. Again, this is Coinmap 1.0, in which you can choose different map styles, and both you and @eternalglooms are agree with this Smiley
What is your opinion about adding only physical veneus (Coinmap 1.0) versus physical venues and online shops/any website (Coinmap 2.0)?

yes! fantastic. now if we could get the data from coinatmradar.com included...
not sure, are they also on osm or do they use a different map system?
edit: it says "© Stadia Maps, © OpenMapTiles, © OpenStreetMap contributors"...

i found their website and map quite useful when traveling in asia - especially in countries who are not officially accepting bitcoin as a payment but still allow bitcoin ATMs to be installed and used (like for instance in vietnam).

if it is difficult to get the data from coinatmradar included i may volunteer to add some ATMs in my area.

thanks for reanimating this tool!

I don't even think there is any map like this, I just found this site https://coinatmradar.com/ to find bitcoin ATM in the near place I lived.

But I found another one to know some venue that accept bitcoin or cryptocurrency in my country especially in the city I live in.

Awesome I like this map, it's really nice.

nice.
personally i would like to see a bitcoin atm feature, maybe with a special icon.
not sure how easy it is to introduce that, but it would be great.
I have added a filter. Now you can choose what to see on the map: venues, ATMs or both.
Is it what you are looking for?

Awesome. I didn´t have any idea that Brazil has so many venues that accept Bitcoin. And there is many that I know that accept but is not there. Congrats on bringing back this site. It is easy to find places and very informative.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. I really appreciate it.

You say here you allow venues that are online or not physical. But on the website you ask people to not add venues unlessthey have physical presence?

I really like this website though, with some promotion, it could become the goto website to check places that accept bitcoin.

Maybe you could add a feature to sort places by category for example? As in some custome search?
Maybe you are confused about the version. Online or not physical venues add is allowed on Coinmap 2.0. This is Coinmap 1.0.
Regarding sorting places by category it should be easy to implement, but I am afraid it could be hard to apply due the lack of a category tag in most of OpenStreetMap places.

nice, this looks good, i'm having a look now at the map close by where i live and there quite a bit of shops  Smiley

As suggested by KingZee, would be better to have a way to filter the shops on the map.
Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you find out several shops around you.
About the filter, as I said above, it could be not applicable.

I totally agree with you. This move me to bring Coinmap 1.0 back!

nice, this looks good, i'm having a look now at the map close by where i live and there quite a bit of shops  Smiley

As suggested by KingZee, would be better to have a way to filter the shops on the map.

Awesome. I didn´t have any idea that Brazil has so many venues that accept Bitcoin. And there is many that I know that accept but is not there. Congrats on bringing back this site. It is easy to find places and very informative.

I have just restored the old version and its source code repository of about 4 years ago.
I will keep update the project as I can and I hope we can enhance it, to make it better usable by mobile devices.

Contributors, fixes and new features are welcome Smiley

nice.
personally i would like to see a bitcoin atm feature, maybe with a special icon.
not sure how easy it is to introduce that, but it would be great.
