I just clicked the website but it seems there are some places which are not updated properly. I am not sure if this is getting updated everyday or every month but some places just doesn’t add up properly. I think there should be more crowd funding for this project if it is an issue. It’s an amazing tool to have handy when traveling around the world.

This thread relates to coinmap.org, which is no longer supported, therefore a lot of information is now outdated.
The supported version is coinmap.it, which has it's own separate thread here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-coinmap-10-is-back-5111963

This is somewhat explained in the post directly above yours.

I don’t see any information on how this map is updated. With the help of updates made by others or the developers just grab the information from internet sources and put it on the map? It has to be real and physical verification should be there all the time. By some means, like peer to peer review of every place by rewarding them. Like someone visits the place and use the Bitcoin system and Ping it someway to the map and get rewarded for it. Not sure if this will work but seems good idea.

Why reply to a post from 2019 if you could just bump your own thread Smiley?
Because the question was related to coinmap.org.

But good to see coinmap is still alive, I completely forgot about it but had this thread on watchlist.
Ehm... I answer "yes" to your question "is it dead?".

Quick question, how do you add new businesses? All I see is this info:

But I can't see any option to do it?
Because it is dead.

As I said you can use coinmap.it (my own thread).

i used coinmap a lot in the old days to help businesses to get enlisted and showing their "bitcoin accepted here" sign globally.
any new features planned?
what happened to coinmap 2.0 - is it dead?

Yes, you can use coinmap.it

1) No
It's a pity; I liked the GitHub repo  Embarrassed

2) Objects are no longer stored in OpenStreetMap. I had quite a long discussion with OSM folks some time ago and they were not very happy about the low quality (missing addresses, etc). of Bitcoin-related OSM nodes. So I decided to do just one-way sync (from OSM to coinmap).
I'm an OSM contributor, and I would have preferred to see wrong nodes removed (or fixed).

Ciao!

Does "one-way sync" mean that if i add a point on your site, it won't be added on OSM? Am i right?

Correct. See the reason for this above.
As I wrote, I don't like your choice at all.

Unfortunately I think I'll search for an alternative.

CoinMap 1.0 is back!

Coinmap have a lot to potential expand in Brazil, even i dont know your business model. A lot of people accept bitcoin here; the information about these places are so scasse that a blog had the 3º place when you google "lugares que aceitam bitcoin"(places that accepts bitcoin) in Brazil.I hope the site can atleast be translated to PT-BR.Coinmap has for me, the best map design and are the most easy to find places.

This is a good idea. Translating the CoinMap site into several languages could be a very good thing. BTW I love that CoinMap has an API avaialable also!

Coinmap 1.0 was translated into several languages
https://web.archive.org/web/20150101084110/http://coinmap.org/ (list on the left)

The github for 1.0 had a folder for languages, but I don't know what the process is for 2.0

I recommend a way to review a venue.

I visited Copenhagen this weekend and 4 of the 5 Bitcoin businesses I visited accepted Bitcoin but did not have their machines working to accept it.

In some cases understandable, I would not want to say that they no longer accept Bitcoin and take them off the list but if they get enough reviews of "waitress said the machine is down", then people won't waste their time.
In some cases I think the waiter/waitress just didn't know how to do it so they opted for the "it's down right now" response.

No matter what. If you left the shop without paying with bitcoin because it was too complicated, then they don't deserve visitors for being on coinmap. Remove them and if you are in a good mood, let them know about them being removed. There is really no excuse to not have any smartphone, PC or even printed QR-Code around. It can't be that they get customers for accepting bitcoin, if those customers finally pay in fiat.

https://coinmap.org/api/ was updated and now mentions an open license. It makes sense they picked this license as else the OSM data would have to be kept separated. With this change I'm glad I can come back to support coinmap.org. Looking forward to working more with the data, both as provider and as user.

I go with http://cryptomap.info/ for now.
Nice to know, thanks!

I'm starting another project, but at the moment this seems the best alternative.

Ciao!
