Yeah I know Somekindabitcoin from IRC. Hangs around in my channel with my price bot and a few other channels I visit on freenode. Trustworthy guy in my opinion.

Would at least mine this coin.

DoS Coin

What is Doscoin and what is a DDoS attack?

DoS stands for Denial of Service.

"In a denial-of-service (DoS) attack, an attacker attempts to prevent legitimate users from accessing information or services. By targeting your computer and its network connection, or the computers and network of the sites you are trying to use, an attacker may be able to prevent you from accessing email, websites, online accounts (banking, etc.), or other services that rely on the affected computer."
Source: Understanding Denial-of-Service Attacks | US-CERT

Now that we have an understanding of a Denial of Service attack, let's get to: "What is a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack?"

Understanding Distributed denial of service attacks

"In a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, an attacker may use your computer to attack another computer. By taking advantage of security vulnerabilities or weaknesses, an attacker could take control of your computer. He or she could then force your computer to send huge amounts of data to a website or send spam to particular email addresses. The attack is "distributed" because the attacker is using multiple computers, including yours, to launch the denial-of-service attack."

Source: Understanding Denial-of-Service Attacks | US-CERT

The damage of a DDoS attack, ways of stopping it, and the cost of an attack on your business.

At this time, a Denial of service attack cannot be stopped effectively; only mitigated (make less severe, serious, or painful). There are already services like that, for instance: Cloudflare which detects attacks and distributes it through their datacenters and mitigates the attacks.

They were able to mitigate attacks up 400gbps

What does DoScoin do to even the competition?

DoScoin is open source and will be openly distributed to volunteers as well as clients who want a free source of Denial of Service mitigation. Our vision is to eliminate all DDoS attacks permanently. There are currently three stages at the moment: Distribution and analysis on attacks against servers with static IPs, Distrbution and analysis on attacks against servers with dynamic IPs, and distribution and analysis on attacks against home routers, home computers, and mobile devices. These three serve as testing and analysis versus the motive of attacks and solutions to these problems.

How do you intend on accomplishing this?

We plan on accomplishing this by distributing nodes to willing server owners which will interconnect all their servers together like a daisy chain. When one server gets attacked within the daisy chain, it alerts other servers and opens up pipes which will distribute the denial of service attack to the other servers and in turn, stall the attack and, ultimately, stopping the attack altogether.

What happens if my server runs on limited bandwidth? Is there something that stops it from flooding at a certain point?

The web app that will come with the finished product will allow you to control how much of an attack gets in. You could set the amount that floods you to something like 10 gbps or a setup amount like 10 gb total could enter your website in the event of an attack.

Why should I participate? What's in it for me?
1) You get to participate in an innovative project designed to protect you and your websites from going down in the event of a DDoS attack. In the end of the project, you get to keep what you have. You will also be able to opt in to participate in a live streamed demonstration of the software. 2) You will be compensated when attacked. I call it proof of mitigation and hold the line. 3) Once we find a solution to end DDoS attacks through analysis of DDoS attacks permanently, you will be one of the first to receive the new implementation.

What is Proof of mitigation and Hold the line?

[center[Proof of mitigation and Hold the line are concepts which will be used to compensate volunteers with nodes on their servers by proof of protection.

How I think proof of protection will work. We will call the server being attacked [A] and the support servers [1][2] and [3].

1) Server [A] is being attacked. The node of server [A] is notified of the attack and notifies other servers: [1],[2], and [3] and tells them to open their ports to ex: 3112. The server being attacked is put in hold the line mode while it is trying to open ports. Hold the line is calculated by strength of attack / 1000. (The attacks are measured in mbps) There was a 200,000 mbps attack (200gbps). I divide this number by 10000 and I generate a new block worth 200 DoScoins. That's it.

2) Server's [1],[2], and [3] have opened their ports. Server [A] drops hold the line and directs the attack evenly to the three servers as well as itself activating proof of mitigation. Proof of mitigation is like having a group hold the line, but rewards are balanced more. There is a 200,000 mbps (200gbps) attack. It is distributed evenly to the three servers in a sum of 66,666.66 mbps (66.66 gbps) attack. This amount is divided by 100 and a block is generated with around 2000 total DoScoins. These are rewarded to each server at a reward of 666.66 coins into their wallet.

3) At the end of the attack, the servers see the total damage done as well as all the IPs used to attack the server. They are all immediately blacklisted.

This is still a rough concept, but it is how I see it working out.

How do you plan on getting funding?

There are 500,000,000 Doscoins that will be generated from Proof of Work. There will be a higher grand total, but I have yet to come up with an amount. I premined 20% of all coins that will be in existence till proof of stake.

20% premine? Why? Will you put it in escrow?

All coins unspent sent to escrow and being held by Maidak

I've been asked this question countless times concerning the amount of coins pre-mined. 10% of these coins (50,000,000) goes toward funding the project. It will be used to pay the programmers, security analysts, marketing, and all the other stuff in between.

The other 10% goes toward distribution to volunteers who will be the backbone to the success of the project.

There will be five rounds of funding in total. The first round will consist of 20,000,000 of the coins being sold at .00000080 per coin. They will be used to fund the initial round of the project. The next rounds will be announced at a later date.

As for the distribution round, I would like everyone to send me an email @ [email protected] . You must show proof of owning a server. It is not for community distribution, but volunteers who would like to participate in the project. I will add you to the list of members.
