Could it be because the blockchain isn't done downloading..?

Yes, it will take a while when you do it via nxt itself.

if someone needs the full NXT Blockchain (up to beginning of January ) its located http://peerexplorer.com/

At the bottom states "Download NXT Blockchain". Copy the unzipped part of the file into nxt_db

Minting a PoW MS currency requires a transaction to be placed on the Nxt blockchain.  You will need to fund your account with NXT as a mint transaction requires a 1 NXT fee.  The good news is that you can mint a PoW MS currency by multiple units at a time rather than as a single unit of currency -- but this will increase the PoW difficulty of the minting operation for you.

Thanks. The miner opens and closes quickly. I changed everything to the correct format in the config file...

    Open your mint.bat file and you will see this:

Code:
   @ECHO OFF
    java.exe -cp classes;lib\*;conf nxt.mint.MintWorker

    change it to this and run it again:

Code:
   @ECHO OFF
    java.exe -cp classes;lib\*;conf nxt.mint.MintWorker
    pause

If something is wrong the console window closes automatically. By adding a "pause" stays open. Can you please copy paste here the logs so we can find the error?

EDIT: Apparently I had a space in before my passphase. Thats fixed but the next error says ELEMS isn't a valid currency.

Maybe it is the same like the passphrase problem with the space. also there is a new version just released that fix some problems. Can ypu try that? https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.4.8.zip

Yes, if the issuer makes the coin mineable, it can be.

The Nxt Monetary System allows a different types of coin, depending on what use they have.

Where is the source?

The Monetary System (MS) allows users to launch new currencies, securing them with the Nxt blockchain using the second-generation cryptocurrency’s established network, rather than requiring that developers create a coin from scratch and bootstrap it with its own network.

It it the source code of NXT: https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/src
