Yes I am a pirate, 300 years too late!
With a 280x and a 290x I'm mining about 1 ETH per day.  It still amazes me to see the huge swings in hashrates on both cards.

Go Big or Go Home.....
seems like ether will take off... but so did a few other coins back in 2014-2015 dark coin black coin to name a few but they all fell down hard. ether looks like its going the same direction people might be making money but with all the hardware to mine the coin now its impossible once again for average joe to get a piece.

If you don't know computers and how to build your own, yes it is impossible.

If you have a minute PC hardware knowledge, you can earn about 2.5x BTC mining earnings after the same cost and power expense.. It's a no brianer.  Grin

I know everyone is trying to scare away new miners in eth to secure their few extra $$, but it is, what it is.

Also, there is a reason why there are 300x as many buys as sells on the market for eth...........

Not really impossible to get a piece. You can buy a 280x and cover the costs in less than 2 months even if price does not moon.

Antifragile
I am running Ethereum Wallet 0.5.2 (newest I think) Mist on Mac OSX. (Says Geth under Activity Monitor.) It catches up with the blockchain every time I start it but if I leave it open it ALWAYS falls behind.
It shows I have 8 peers. When I try to send any Ether it just hangs there and then when I exit I get a timeout error.
Is there a port that needs to be open or something? (I get peers though so it seems like it can connect.)

If this is not the place to ask, apologies in advance, just point me in the right direction please.

Thx,
Its about sharing

Looks like a pump happening on poloniex.

Also in bittrex. Hope this time ETH will touch 0.035 at least, again

a r9 390 is on its way.

what kind of internet bandwidth does eth need?

It does not need much internet  bandwidth for mining. 1Mb/s is enough for the data transmission. You need low latency.

1 Mb/s seems high? cgminer on btc is like a few Kb/s I think. I was hoping much less as Im wireless internet (think 3g). Ill be just mining and trading eth for btc as I go. hope not to need the full blockchain.

guess Ill find out

No you don't need the blockchain if your are mining on a pool,

You misunderstood what he wrote.

Looking at the logs, my rigs are pulling about 15Kb/s each .

Looks like F2pool has been running a pool and will "release" it soon:

https://www.f2pool.com/help

Blocks found by the pool that has not been launched yet...

https://www.f2pool.com/ethereum-blocks

It will be interesting to now compare F2 pool vs the existing early ETH pools like Dwarfpool.

Anyways, we need some compelling balance in the ETH mining universe and avoid current BTC mining dominance by F2 and Antpool.

so instead you like it to dominance by dwarfpool?

No. Balance.
