Following the successful launch of our v0 mainnet, we are delighted to announce a community-based competition for original content submission. The event will last three days, from 2pm PST 13/07/2019 to 16/07/2019 ending at 2pm PST. We will award the top creators with Harmony swag from our new shop, having T-shirts, caps and much more. Plus top creators get a chance to win up to $300 worth of tokens. Creators will compete in two categories:

Gifs/Memes
You can use your imagination in whichever way you see fit but each submission must talk about Harmony staking or Harmony nodes. We will not accept any NSFW material into the official competition.

How it works:

The competition uses a tier-based, elimination system to advance contestants into the next level for their original creation. Each category has three tiers for contestants to scale through:
Tier 1: Opened to all to submit content
Tier 2: 20 contestants will be voted into this group
Tier 3: Three contestants will be voted in and declared winners by the community through Harmony’s Official Telegram group

Requirements

The maximum filesize for photos should not exceed 5mb. Gifs should not exceed 15mb

Q: Who are your main competitors and what are your main advantages?

A: The most famous previous sharding-based blockchains is probably Zilliqa, we respect their team and their technology but to achieve a truly scalable, decentralized and secure sharding-based blockchain, it takes more thinking deep into the technology.
Specifically, we employ state-sharding which break the scalability limit and really make our blockchain scalable to hundreds if not thousands of shards and potentially achieve hundreds of thousands of TPS.
So from a technical perspective, our technology and design thinking is actually at the level of Eth 2.0 where decentralization, security and performance are well-balanced. So for that, I would like to say that our true competitor is actually Eth 2.0. Our advantage compared to Eth 2.0 is a faster delivery time and more focused development. Besides, our chain is more preferring finality and speed while Eth 2.0 is more about liveness. Our staking model is also more efficient compared to Eth 2.0’s sampling-based model where validators have to wait a long time to be picked into consensus voting.
From the security aspect, a sharding-based blockchain needs to take care of the problem that a single shard is 1/N weaker than the whole network. So we adopt VRF+VDF based randomness sharding mechanism and Cuckoo-rule based resharding to effectively prevent a single shard being taken over.
From the decentralization point of view, we are the first PoS-based sharding blockchain, with a new staking model where more people rather than those big staker/validators can freely participate in the network. In our network, each shard can have 400 validators and in the whole network, there will be thousands of validators, which is a significant step upward for decentralization compared to other PoS projects with 21 to 100 validators in the whole network.

150 of the 600 nodes are external, the other 450 is run by us at the moment. This ratio also will gradually shift to be majority external by Mainnet Phase 3. We plan to add several hundred more in Q3 and the rest of 2019.

What is the minimum staking amount?
For foundational nodes the amount staked is close to 1m ONE tokens...but we want to lower and make it more accessible to everyONE. We want to make it more accessible and even more decentralized.

I guess one of the main reason for this dump was instability in the price of bitcoin but anyhow it good to see that some of the launchpad projects are going up today.

what's weird about this is there's no bad news related to harmony at all, no damaging FUDs whatsoever but it dropped so much like something is going on...
most alts are only down ~5% while harmony is down over 40% since June 30

These things always happen with crypto currencies. Sometimes it falls, sometimes it rises, other times it corrects.
