Crypto recently gained far more acceptance, which has changed the outlook, and benefited the entire market. But if you look at the recent price increases in various coins, MΣC is one of the rare few that actually earned it. MEC has an impressive list of accomplishments for just the last couple weeks.

No one knows for sure. I personally feel it's higher then most. With all the regulation talk on bitcoin, coinjoin is a big deal, and odds are megacoin will have it first. Never know though. Beyond that it has a fairly large community that's active in helping with the development of the coin, which is always a good sign. Top 10 market cap is nice too.
