A couple of months later the number of blocks seem to be 275428, so it has moved. Don't know for how long it's been like this though, just started to download the chain.

Someone mined MEA with a lot of hash power and left. Difficulty increased and now it's difficult to get new blocks until retarget.
One or two days network will be normal.
It's been the common for the new coins lately. someone has a new toy. x2 the netspeed & instamine a few blocks throwing the diff to insane heights then go off to a diff coin while miners who pay for there hash times wasted.
