When I started mining it was less, I think only about 200 or 300 blocks ... and I noticed this post perhaps minute or more after it appeared, so I guess those blocks could be that 1 minute headstart from others ...
Edit: now I see it in transactions: first block I've personally mined was block 853. And it took me about 2 minutes to compile .... so if there was premine it was not that bad.

1.8% Of total blocks? Not the worst of premines, but certainly higher than would be desired by the public.
