Hi, the bounties where during the ICO period last year. We may have some incentives to run your own Mysterium node on TestNet. When the MYST payments system has been implemented you will be able to earn tokens for helping provide a secure connection to those in need.

I have found spreadsheet of signature bounty on slack in bounty channel, , is it finished or when will it be updated?

Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I'd think about a good strategy to phase out the MYST token completely and replace it with another, more general currency (i.e. BTC/ETH) without completely screwing over current holders. I'm not sure if such a solution exists, and it will probably give a lot of grief in the short term in any case, but in the long run, I really don't see a way around it.

Otherwise, you are coupling the future of your project to a number of unknowns of which you simply don't have any influence and, even worse, which are not directly related to your base project. I mean, even if your token was the best solution (whch I still highly doubt), looking at the overall Ethereum token craze aftermath would lead me to the solution that we'll see a huge drop in interest in that particular field. And then you have to explain to a completely disillusioned and fed up public "yeah, we know most tokens suck, but we are legit, trust us!". They won't listen.

And this "exploring various possibilities", come on. You are a VPN project, that's where your focus should lay. Are you seriously trying to shoehorn your token into your system, even if it is a bad fit? What if all the evidence would tell you that it was a bad idea, and commiting to it, no matter what, won't make it a good idea?

Also, in addition to hiring economy people, it might be a good idea to get some outside people to take a look at what you're doing. People who don't have to toot the companies horn in order to not lose their job, you know…

We are exploring various possibilities for our community to make use of the MYST token until Mysterium VPN app goes to market. We are also exploring options for nodes to onboard on various platforms to start receiving MYST tokens. More news on this in the coming weeks, stay tuned.

Ok, so it looks like as if the token is a pure means of payment. This is a problem, because the extra friction that buying selling first BTC/ETH, then the token, will drive users off the project. Plus, due to the weird intricacies of token economics, the value of the token is almost completely decoupled from its utility.


I think it's time to add some economy experts.

We believe by collaborating together and working on the same privacy issue in open source environment we can reach much more than doing this individually alone, please join our movement and you’ll see by yourself. Our project has received funding, has a clear whitepaper with milestones and a team of security and privacy experts that has grown strong from 4 to 30 and growing.

In regards to what payment method is the most suitable for Mysterium platform, we strongly believe that our crafted promise based payment approach using MYST token will solve the problem(P2P value transfer without 3rd party involvement). There are other approaches on the market and every approach has it’s technical challenges and limitations which restricts projects from easily switching between them.

Bad argument. Since a fork could be pretty much interchangable, it would get traction in no time. All the extra hoops a user would have to jump through to use a token instead of ETH/BTC would drive first new users, then the old ones to the new alternative. With them, the node providers follow.

Unless you have good, technical reasons to use a token, a token approach is always inferior to a general money approach and will eventually be outrun by general money approaches. That's why we don't have Banana-Dollars to only buy bananas with, and Bread-Dollars to only buy bread with and so on.
The only thing a token might still provide at that point is the utility of a discount method. And that'll only work if you find node providers who are willing to play the game that way.

So, are there technical reasons?

@ttookk there is currently a large community of active testers, people hosting nodes etc., a hypothetical copycat wouldn't have the same community, so there is that to consider for starters

could you give me a short "explain it like I'm five (ELI5)" answer to the following question:

Say, you succeed in getting the VPN system to work and say, you opensource the code (which you'd need to do anyway, I guess). What stops someone else from taking your code, changing the payment and bond methods to ETH instead of MYST and then republishes it? Or, to phrase it a bit differently, what technical advantage does a token approach have over a general currency approach?
