This coin has been kinda dead for a year, why does there seem to be a spike in interest? Any announcements or just and pump and dump?
Noone knows, it may be some big investors or even some exchanges insiders buying-someone who might know more than us. This is rare coin, with low maximum cap, so even few coins may be worth a lot in the future - if all goes well. So its worth investing few dollars, just in case.
Its not as dead as it looks like, most of the holders are PoS minig, and trading volume is a lot higher than it used to be.

I followed distribution of coins on cryptopia, and during last 6 months total amount held by top 50 accounts more than  doubled. On last place it used to be below 100 coins, now its 285. And its not countig coins which where withdrawn from exchange.

Probably a dumb question - trying to get the wallet running with Ubuntu (new to Ubuntu as well) - and it seems all but impossible....

The .conf file is a real piece of work. Does anyone have a simple set of instructions to get this up and running with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS? Everything is a little fragmented...

Thanking you!

I'm also on Ubuntu 16.04 (MATE) and Orbitcoin is running fine.
Is your system 32-bit or 64-bit and did you download the correct version?

The default map of Orbitcoin on Ubuntu is .orbitcoin (in your Home map).
There you can create a file called orbitcoin.conf

If Orbitcoin doesn't start at all you probably need to change rights:
Right click orbitcoin-qt -> properties -> permissions -> check "Allow executing file as program"

We really need masternode

ORB don't need masternodes
Every staking miner with a smal laptop can mine orb und cheap engery like 15 watt
He must only hold orb in your wallet, that's all

Nodes increase from 60 by the last year to 91 this yeear

https://www.coinexchange.io/network/peers/ORB

ORB grows slow and health

From 0.01 usd

So sad for the website to still be down...

What do you need a website for?

This a coin, that people want to read about. This is effectively a business that needs to be marketed... What is the message out there if your website isn't even working?

I want to read up on the company, the people behind it, whitepapers etc as I am sure other would like to do also

Whatever server hosts the website looks to be down.

You can read the entire website @ http://web.archive.org/web/20171207231154/http://www.orbitcoin.org/

My computer crashed while staking orbitcoin. When I try to launch the wallet it program crashes while trying to load blocks. Is there a way to recover my wallet or did I just lose all my coins?
Always keep a backup of your wallet.dat, that goes for any coin.  With that said I've been staking ORB for almost 4 years, my wallets crashed due to power outage issues and has been the only time the wallets crashed.  When the wallet is closed suddenly while staking due to a system shut down or power outage, the database seems to corrupt and you will have to load a backup of the database or delete the corrupted database files and redownload the database.  Good to keep a copy of that on hand too, with any coin just so you don't have to wait days to weeks to download a database in the future.

Good luck.

I think the orbitcoin site was developed and hosted by a member of the community, nonetheless, should work on getting that back up.  lol

Rebuild the block index and other data bases by launching your wallet with -reindex

If it doesn't help, then it must be a very hard crash which damaged some parts of the block chain stored. Make a copy of your wallet.dat and orbitcoin.conf if you have any, delete your data directory, download and extract .orbitcoin.tar.xz from the OP, put wallet.dat and orbitcoin.conf back in place.

-reindex worked like a charm.

It happened to me twice in the past, but only after sudden power cut while staking. reloading blocks and importing back wallet or keys from backup helped, no coins lost.
its good to have offline backups in case of total hard drive crash
