No surrender, no retreat, no regret.
Orbitcoin v1.5.1.0 is ready finally. There are many updates and improvements in this release.

Major updates are support for BIP66 (Strict DER), compatibility with C++11 and Qt 5 (tested fine with the latest v5.6.0), payment signature conversion to comply with any OpenSSL version, improved stability (no more occasional crashes while relaying bad messages and alerts).

Coin selection for staking has been based on depth in the block chain previously (10000 confirmations by default). Could be adjusted using -stakemindepth. There is -stakemintime available now which is time based (48 hours by default). If you set -stakemindepth, then -stakemintime gets disabled and vice versa.

There have been two wallet tools added, network activity monitor and block explorer. The first one counts all data received and transmitted, draws a nice graph in real time. The second one has been almost written from scratch by me because every in wallet block explorer I've seen is ugly and almost useless. What you get is a very fast and functional block explorer allowing to search by block number and payment ID.

Here comes an eye candy. The wallet supports multiple styles from now on using -qtstyle. This is the default style with a horizontal tool panel inherited from the previous releases (qtstyle=0):

Another style with a vertical tool panel (qtstyle=1):

Yet another style with a vertical tool panel in green colours (qtstyle=2):

Finally, there are both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows releases available now. Times change. I guess most people have 64-bit operating systems on their desktops now.

Ghostlander, it's a good and helpful background summary but I'm still scratching my head.

The coin was premined. Yes or no?

Do you understand the reason why most coins that are premined say in the ANN "Premine x%"?

Yes, it was. It makes 26.5% of the total coin supply. That's quite noticeable, but not huge. It wasn't my decision anyway. However an absolute majority of coins constituting the top 100 at CoinMarketCap currently are either ICO or pre-mined or instamined or dodgy launched or feature hidden developer's fees or whatever. Although it matters from a purely ethical point of view, most people don't seem to care. Ethereum is the best example. I don't see a point in getting obsessed over this fact and putting a reference in every advertisement. Orbitcoin caught a fair share of shit storms in its early days. Time to get over.

Think with your brain. It is not illegal (yet).

When Orbitcoin was launched on the 30th of July 2013, it was supposed to have a total coin supply of 31 million coins or so. Therefore 1 million pre-mine didn't look huge. However the emission model wasn't up to this objective. The PoW rewards could deliver additional 600K to 700K ORB before hitting zero. There was also a 0% PoS reward rate, so most people didn't care to keep their wallets on for staking. There were bounties available from day 0 funded by the pre-mine (by the way, we call it the Advancement Fund). For example, our logo was created for a bounty. Wallet and thread translations, give-aways and promotion campaigns to scientific communities, support for pools and exchanges. I recall Red Mist was giving ORBs away at Cryptocointalk in August of 2013 to anyone who just posted in the forums. Some coins were paid to Shakezula most likely who launched Orbitcoin originally. However most of the pre-mine was given away to the miners by the late December of 2013 when the PoW mining got stuck due to a time travel bug. Another community user made a quick fix to restore it on his fork while Cryptsy remained on the official one moved by 0% PoS only. Those users mining on the alternate chain were supposed to get paid from the Advancement Fund once the new wallet is complete. Shakezula didn't care to get his bugs fixed referring to a busy schedule, so Red Mist started to look for someone capable of getting this job done in a timely manner.

Q: The coin was premined. Yes or no?
A: Obviously, yes.

As for the 2nd question... well, I don't know why most coins that are premined say in the ANN "Premine x%", apart from letting the [potential] users know what bounty levels are available, so please be kind and enlighten me.

Hey mate could do with your help getting our forced update ready,

I know you have your own coin to deal with, but as that doesn't have any issues at the moment, I was hoping your be able to help us out.

payment will be from 5-10k ORB once the issue is resolved, so that should mean a few BTC in your pocket.

let me know what you think good sir.

Best Regards

TheRedMist

I have released the new v1.4.0.0 wallet on the 27th of February 2014 by forking and patching the development branch of Novacoin. Received my 10K ORB bounty 10 days later which was something like 0.6 BTC due to a rapid price decline on ORB. Red Mist disappeared right after without paying those miners on the alternate chain who weren't pleased with it obviously, though it was none of my business as my part there was over. The coin was drifting to nowhere when it was hit by a 51% attack on the 15th of April 2014 due a time warp vulnerability in the original retarget code. Someone instamined a few thousand blocks in a few hours driving the difficulty to zero. I could watch this coin die or interfere with a hard forking patch immediately what I did. Therefore I assumed resposibility for this coin and took over it de facto. Red Mist returned to the world of living in 2 months and transferred to me the remaining 150K of the pre-mine, so I was able to compensate the miners and keep the rest for the future needs. It has been on the public ledger since with about 136K unspent by this moment because I pay for servers and domain names out of my pocket.

Was Orbitcoin premined?

Is the premine mentioned in the original post?

It seems to have some more or less decent people involved in it. It is a salvageable coin. But as long as you try to salvage it by preventing people from finding out about the premine until they own the coin it will not succeed.

If a new coin tried to hide its premine it would get page after page of comments from people warning against buying it. Why do you think Orbitcoin should not at least be held to some standard? Some people who do not support premined coins will buy some. Then when they find that the premine is being glossed over they will sell. You make a few pennies. Is that what you want?

add
I'm going to drop this as I have enough enemies already. But ffs why not just be square with how you present the coin. Look at OKcoin. An utterly shitty distribution, nobody would touch it, but it was salvaged. The person running that is upfront, not out to bullshit anybody https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.14190124 Do what you like but not mentioning the fact that your coin was premined is probably not going to put Orbitcoin on track to success  Roll Eyes
I "got into" ORB about 1 year ago when I was looking for a less-than-ordinary PoS coin. In the Criptocointalk thread(s) it was mentioned more than once that there was a pretty big pre-mine at launch and that it was a programming mistake and corrections were attempted a bit childish (to be gentle). What was relevant to me at that time wast that Ghostlander took over this coin and acted very ethical on all the aspects under his control. I ignored then (as I do now) non-realistic allegations and projects that appeared in those threads. The algorithm itself seems to be pretty resistant to ASICs, is well maintained without excessive hipe and all the technical questions I had in the first year were answered professionally and in a very decent time frame either by Ghostlander or another knowledgeable user/contributor.
I did my own research regarding this coin before "investing" the few bucks I've put into it. I had pretty good times chatting with fervent supporters about "ORB Society", real-estate on other celestial bodies, colonization plans... but I'm an avid Sci-Fi reader in my early 40's and I know how to differentiate between facts and fictions.
Your example of OKcash is very well thought. I wish ORB would follow that example, but I don't feel that's mandatory. Each coin with its personality Wink

That is the 'nazi bell' that was mentioned 3 years ago (before Ghost adopted Orbitcoin).
It has everything to do with German technology from that period.
Nothing wrong with that, for example NASA also build machines based on German technology from that period.

Please read the explanation of Mario again, it's very clear: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.14690512
Orbitcoin is a honest coin with a honest dev and a honest small but growing community.
At the OP you can check the cold Advancement Fund wallet, that is what's left from the exchange in 2014.

I'm only a simple Orbitcoin holder and i have trust in this coin.

If you or anyone else don't like this coin, no problem, you 're free to skip this forum thread  Wink

Myself bringing up the funding of this coin had to do with me wanting to see how much the coin has changed.  This is the Hillary Clinton of coins.  This coin was founded on the principal of funding the nazi bell.  That isn't something that can even be made up.  They promised that the coin would help fund science projects and that was one that was listed on the official website.

Indeed, out of the blue they show up with incorrect arguments.
Why? Are they trying to push down the ORB price because they
want to buy cheap ORB? That's how the pump/dump game works...

of course, sold too cheap, though they know the ORB a promising currency's future with Ghostlander

A person should do their own research but it looks like orbitcoin is being promoted dishonestly. Of course people who have a lot of them want to get some money but it is not good to sell this coin like that to unsuspecting people. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/27-of-all-orbitcoins-ever-were-instamined-in-first-6-minutes-1153856

by TheRedMist was 150k left after the coin exchange ghostlander is doing for people that was on the wrong fork,, 130k left I think,, out of around 1.6 million in circulation

The other funds was used in giveaways, and bounties to merchants/services

example: by TheRedMist 120K
where already gaining merchants and a steady rate, over 70 merchants/services in only one year.
But if you want to reach out to merchants speak with Ghostlander about it, clearly it needs to be long term ORB support or it's not advancement.
most coinpayment.net merchants are happy with a 200 to 300 ORB donation I find, will be seeing about new merchants there in the next day or two,
(I suspect we will of gained more merchants) and if not I'll contact a few.
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/12622-orbitcoin-v132-coin-exchange/
Transactions:
814.41 ORB exchanged to Smartmining
3978.798851 ORB exchanged to Tsousa
1258.03 ORB exchanged to Ojmalik
858.55 ORB exchanged to Erazmus
110.67 ORB exchanged to Darovici
585.9799 ORB exchanged to Mad_Max

150k is just what's left over, Ghostlander the new head of development will use it in the advancement of ORB,, like I said could be any number of new projects... but we was legit no a scam currency

= 600K + 130K + 120K + 150K left over = 1,000,000

and the bounty receivers have cheated. I bought all my Orbitcoin !!! or staked

Didn't this coin have a huge premine? Why is it not mentioned? Is that why the moderated thread?

But ORB had a huge premine, this went back to the miner

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/40243-orbitcoin-advancement-fund/

i find this link not, white the bounty for miner under Ghostlander. Ghoatslander takeover this coin.
and work hard on the wallet and the neoscrypt miner alone.
as he has also neoscrypt algo developed alone
2014 he changed the algo of scrypt in neoscrypt, IN VOTE Community

ORB is very old currency... many things happend in this time
the old dev runaway, https://www.coins-e.com/ was the trading platform fraud
AltDice http://orb.altdice.net/ scamed, other guy's too
Service orbitcoin.mydice.co scamed
I paid for it by my own ORB's. and many other things. But I've learned! Do you want to provide a service for ORB, then let's talk, but only the finished work then before pleasure
You can trust John and me, or leave it! We continue to ORB if we have time. Do not trust me or another, even trust you!
I would trust no one, your decision!

Now why moderates? you see a trolls?
#1041 I would have deleted it

ORB had no luck Smiley

edit:

The bounty for the miner + Fund is the reason that a "money supply" 2539707.27922500, but we are in "blocks": 1764695,
Halving the block is to 2,000,000, then the block reward only 0.5 ORB, not 1 ORB
"moneysupply" : 2539707.27922500,

The POS mining never ending in ORB, like other coins. I can tell, i mined 13 ORb white one wallet in the last 3 hours, but ich have a lot of ORB. And i don't want sell my intial ORB, why?  I'm sitting here, the PC stake
