Oyster enables websites to silently generate traffic revenue as visitors perform Proof of Work for a decentralized storage ledger
This in turn spawns web nodes that go treasure hunting, hence retaining the data on the Tangle. Whales can dump the coin afterwards all they want, it will always self-correct back to storage prices because 1 PRL = 1GB/1 Year. This rate is hardcoded in the protocol and cannot change. This is the reason that huge bonuses have been assigned to the presale

My blockchain can beat up your blockchain
Truly freaking amazing!!! Whoever thought about this is a genius. I think I have to read through this one more time. Two questions, Do the websites essentially act as nodes?

What happens to the files at the end of the paid storage periods?

Will there be a Grace period or some kind of automatic process that sends the files to a predefined location?
That was 3 questions.

Hi, great idea, i like it.
But i can't find team on website. I want to see faced people, whom i will be sent ETH for project.

There are linkedin links in the team section.

I for one am excited to see what happens in this space of decentralized computer resource sharing from a p2p perspective.  Projects seem to have been in the works for years now but not much has materialized.  Hoping that 2018 some of the development that has been taking place for years starts to come to fruition.  ETH blockchain based data storage with smart contracts will be a part of the future, just depends on who get there first and gets adopted by the masses.  Following on twitter and telegram, thanks for the airdrop

How it will works on mobile devices? Can it dramatically lowers battery life?

Not the full CPU/GPU resources are used. In fact, if the browser begins to lag then the proof of work is immediately throttled. However, in the end it will impact battery life as all applications do. The degree is minimal, but website visitors consent to the proof of work (unlike coinhive) and elect to use their hardware devices to support the websites they visit. This enables the content to be produced and hosted in the first place.

Nice looking website that is easy to follow. I hope you can create a platform that rivals maidsafe, just because they were here first, doesn't mean there the best. Good to see that there is still a lot of ingenuity in the crypto world.

I applied for the airdrop, but I'm confused about one point: if it is ERC20-based, then how does it use a tangle instead of a blockchain? Doesn't ERC20 imply that it is based on Ethereum's blockchain, and not a tangle?

I will quote this part of the icoalert.com interview https://blog.icoalert.com/ico-alert-report-oyster-ffda53924db6

Quote
ICO Alert: How does the Oyster token (PRL) function within the platform and why is it needed?
Oyster: The browsers of website visitors hunt for embedded Oyster Pearls, PRL tokens, across the IOTA tangle. The private seed key of the Ethereum address holding the PRL is embedded in an uploaded file’s encrypted data structure. As the nodes search for PRL via proof of work they inadvertently re-attach the data to the tangle which extends the file’s retention. This means that the data retention is fully decentralized and motivated by the economic incentive of a continuous blockchain treasure-hunt. The Oyster smart contract only allows PRL to be gradually released from the token’s embedded state, therefore prolonging the treasure-hunt and guaranteeing the data’s integrity for the correct amount of time. This mechanism guarantees that if a user pays for data to be stored for two years, it will persist on the tangle for a minimum of two years.

So the seed keys of address that control the Ethereum blockchain ERC20 token, are stored on the IOTA tangle. This creates a blockchain treasure hunt which ensures that the data is retained on the tangle.

This is one of the most promising projects, yet it wasn't well known. It combines the IOTA tech for decentralized storage and Ethereum smart contracts. Finally, its getting lots of attention!

This is a project with a practical idea behind it. Adblock, etc. is good for website users but creative content publishers lose out on revenue. This is a solution that seems to work for all. Everybody contributes with their CPU/GPU power and it is anonymous. I think this is a good bet for investment. Good luck with roadmap!

“The Internet of Sovereignty”
the concept of webads and the means of monetizing it was a long deliberated issue and there were no proper answer till todate. in that sense i believe oyster has provided the perfect solution for the long outstanding issue. This project therefore has huge potential and i hope lot of investors wll naturally get attracted to make this project a success.

Very interesting project. So it is build on Tangle but on the Ethereum Blockchain? Do I understand that right?
How does this work?

I quite like the idea. I agree that site builders are suffering due to adblock.
In addition it will be preferable for the end user to contribute CPU / GPU power instead of being bombarded with advertising.
As a final consumer of some content I also prefer to share my CPU / GPU instead of being bombarded with advertising.
Great project

Thats a great idea,I Want to join the airdrop, It used the ethereum blockchain,to storage the data.the smart contract launch on the ethereum blockchain, they use the cpu and gpu both way at the same time, that is the amazing idea ,It will be a successful project.so I am supporting this project and will jion the airdrop now.thank you and hope it have a great success.

heard from you this morning via a airdropalert.com email. Im really looking forward to the launch of the project. Everybody should contribute a little bit with his CPU/GPU.
Good luck!

I like your ideea. I agree that creative content publishers are suffering due to adblock. Also agree that everybody contributes with their CPU/GPU power Cheesy .
Being anonymous is even better. The spreadsheet looks very well ,too. Conclusion?! I`m in!! Goodluck !

I would love to see what this project is really about. If you guys can provide a good roadmap for this, then we might see an influx of users here. It is somewhat similar to SCJX, a coin which i currently hold too so this has gotten my interest.

Here is the roadmap description that I gave in the icoalert.com interview:

Quote
The development roadmap can be classified into five major stages:

1) Launch of the Oyster Pearl (PRL) smart contract.
2) The broker node half of the network.
3) The web node half of the network.
4) The distributed reputation system.
5) The extendable decentralized application platform.

Each one of these stages are listed in chronological order of development, and happen to increase in complexity with each stage. Stage 1 is nearing completion as it must launch on our crowdsale date of October 21st. The smart contract contains special functions that become the groundwork for the entire network. When stage 2 is completed, hopefully before 2017 is over, basic file uploads can be performed via Oyster whilst using PRL as payment. When Stage 3 is completed, website owners will be able to install Oyster on their website and earn PRL revenue. We are planning to have this functionality ready by the first quarter of 2018. When stage 4 is completed, the Oyster network can be considered fully decentralized and trustless as the broker nodes will be kept in check. We are planning a mid-2018 release for this stage of the protocol. Finally, stage 5 implies a continuous mode of development. This stage allows for decentralized applications to run on top of the Oyster mesh-net of web nodes, such as a decentralized telephone application. Oyster will provide an API so that programmers can leverage the mesh-net with built-in node hop algorithms. All programming for the decentralized applications will run on JavaScript, a very accessible language, that will cultivate a fruitful environment of decentralized application development.

Interesting project! I'm following the IOTA project too, it will be the future (the IoT devices are growing day by day).
